The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls earned a tough 49-46 win at home over the Flandreau Fliers on Friday, January 2nd for their third straight win.
Neither team held a big lead in the game. The first quarter finished with the Fliers leading 12-11. Dell Rapids was able to outscore Flandreau in the second quarter 16-12 to take a 27-24 lead into halftime. Flandreau was able to grab a five-point lead, 37-32, with 2:00 to play in the third quarter. The Quarriers cut the deficit to 38-36 going into the fourth quarter. The Fliers got the lead to four points, 44-40, with 4:30 left in the game. Dell Rapids scored the next five points to go in front 45-44, but Flandreau regained the lead 46-45 with 2:30 remaining. The Quarriers went ahead for good with 1:00 to go on a basket by Claire Witte. Jersi Schultz made two free-throws late to make the score 49-46. A last second shot by Flandreau was no good at the buzzer.
Dell Rapids shot 37.5% (18-48) overall in the game, 33% (4-12) from three-point area, and 69% (9-13) from the free-throw line. Flandreau finished the game shooting 32% (17-53) overall, just 17.7% (3-17) on three-point attempts, and 9-10 from the free-throw line.
Schultz finished with a double-double recording 17 points and 10 rebounds. Rorie Thoreson also had 17 points with five rebounds and three assists. Elin Schoenhard had six points, six rebounds, and two assists. Witte ended with six points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
