Dell Rapids 14U advanced to the championship game of the Region 5A Tournament as the one-loss team after a win on Tuesday, July 11th. They opened region play on Monday, July 10th in Madison. In their first game, Dell Rapids fell to Madison Black 6-0. Dell Rapids advanced to the second day by eliminating Tri-Valley White, 29-3. In a second elimination game on Tuesday, Dell Rapids defeated Sioux Falls Chargers 16-1 to earn a spot in the championship game.
Dell Rapids put the pressure on Sioux Falls early with a nine-run top of the first inning. They scored two times in the top of the second, and then had a five-run fourth inning. The Chargers got their lone run in the bottom of the fourth.
Jackson Peppel had two hits and four RBIs. Jake Heinitz finished with two hits and three RBIs. Luke Symens also had two hits with two RBIs. Thomas LaVoy had two singles. Hayden Hansen and Eli Gullickson both had a hit and an RBI. Magnus Narigon added a triple. Peppel pitched two innings and allowed two hits and had three strikeouts. Symens pitched the final two innings and allowed an earned run on two hits with two strikeouts.
Dell Rapids will play Madison Black in the championship game on Wednesday, July 12th. With one loss already in the tournament, Dell Rapids will have to beat Madison two times to earn a spot in the state tournament.
