A 9-0 run in the fourth quarter was key for the Dakota Valley Panthers in a 77-71 win over the Dell Rapids Quarrier boys on Friday, February 13th.
The first quarter featured runs by both teams. The Quarriers started the game with a 10-2 run. Dakota Valley cut the lead down to 16-13 with 2:15 to go in the quarter. Dell Rapids responded and ended the first quarter leading 24-15. The Panthers chipped away at the lead in the second quarter and cut the lead down to 38-35 by halftime.
The Panthers would take the lead in the third quarter and held a 50-48 lead going into the fourth quarter. The Quarriers scored the first four points of the fourth quarter and went back in front, 52-50, with 7:00 to play. Just fifteen seconds later Dakota Valley tied the game 52-52. They would then score the next nine points to go ahead 61-52 with 4:15 to go in the game. The Panthers were able to stay in front the rest of the game.
Dell Rapids shot 56% (28-50) from the field, 36% (5-14) on three-point attempts, and 67% (10-15) from the free-throw line. Dakota Valley shot 46% (25-54) in the game overall, 40% (10-25) on three-point shots, and 81% (17-21) from the free-throw line.
Camden Jones had 18 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Lincoln Anderson also had 18 points, 15 of those in the first half. Jackson Peppel finished with 13 points, three rebounds, and three steals. Karson Paye added 10 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. Jace Brende also ended with 10 points and three rebounds. Hudson Wolff had two points.
