The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls basketball team hosted the Lennox Orioles on Tuesday, December 16th. The Orioles pulled away from Dell Rapids late in third quarter on their way to a 74-56 victory.
The two teams played a close first quarter throughout most of it. Lennox led 18-14 and then finished the quarter on a 4-0 run for a 22-14 lead. The Orioles went on a 9-3 run to start the second quarter and extended their lead to 31-17 with 4:35 left in the half. Dell Rapids battled back to cut the lead to 36-28 by halftime.
The Quarriers kept pace with Lennox early in the third quarter and trailed by just nine points, 46-37, with 3:30 to play in the third. The Orioles then finished the quarter on a 10-2 scoring advantage to take a 56-39 lead into the fourth quarter. Lennox would outscore Dell Rapids 18-17 in the final quarter.
Dell Rapids shot 41% (21-51) from the field overall, 43% (6-14) on three-point shots, and 8-11 from the free-throw line. Lennox was 48% (31-65) shooting, 38% (8-21) on three-point attempts, and 4-7 from the free-throw line.
Rorie Thoreson had 21 points, four rebounds, and four steals. Kassidee Stykel had eight points. Jersi Schultz and Elin Schoenhard both had six points, five rebounds, and two assists each. Taylor Schmidt also had six points with three rebounds.
