Quarriers and Chargers Clash in Battle of Top Teams

The Dell Rapids Quarriers traveled to Sioux Falls to take on the Sioux Falls Christian Chargers in a battle of top teams in 11A football on Friday, October 17th.  The #1 Chargers took the lead in the first quarter and never trailed in their 41-15 win over #2 Dell Rapids.

The only score of the first quarter came with 6:53 to go.  The Chargers scored on a one-yard run.  A made extra point gave them an early 7-0 lead.  The score remained 7-0 until the second quarter.

Sioux Falls Christian added a 25-yard touchdown pass with 8:52 remaining in the half.  Another extra point pushed the lead to 14-0.  Dell Rapids scored late in the second quarter.  Drake Eastman connected with Karson Paye for a 48-yard touchdown pass.  Kirti Pickard made the extra point to cut the lead in half, 14-7.  The Chargers, however, were able to get a 32-yard field goal with just :04 remaining in the half to make the score 17-7 at halftime.

Sioux Falls Christian was able to get a couple of scores in the third quarter.  The first one was a five-yard run with 9:15 to play in the quarter.  Their second score was a two-yard run with 4:02 remaining.  Both extra points were good, and the Chargers led 31-7 going into the fourth quarter.

Ryan Stubbe scored on a three-yard touchdown run with 8:58 to play in the game.  Stubbe also scored the two-point conversion to bring the Quarriers to a 31-15 score.  The Chargers would add a 22-yard field goal about a minute and a half later to make the score 34-15.  They would also get a 16-yard touchdown pass and extra point with 2:24 left in the game for the 41-15 score.

Dell Rapids had 204 yards of total offense, 120 rushing yards and 84 passing yards.  Sioux Falls Christian had 352 yards of offense, 183 rushing yards and 169 passing yards.  The Quarriers were 3-11 on third down, while the Chargers were 4-10 in the game.

Eastman was 3-7 passing for 78 yards with one touchdown and one interception.  Paye had two catches for 54 yards and a touchdown.  Breck Evans had a catch for 25 yards.  Stubbe ended with 18 carries for 62 yards and a touchdown.  Evans had five carries for 35 yards.  Kenny Swanson finished with 12 tackles in the game.  Jace Brende had five tackles.  Paye finished with 4.5 tackles.  Jackson Peppel, Ryan Baker, Carson Maeschen, and Stubbe all had four tackles each.

Dell Rapids will end the regular season at home against the Lennox Orioles on Thursday, October 23rd at 7:00 p.m.
