The Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team played in the Sanford Pentagon Tournament in Sioux Falls on Saturday, September 27th. The Quarriers played five matches finishing 2-3 for the day.
Dell Rapids played two pool-play matches before entering bracket play. In the first pool play match, the Quarriers rolled past Tea Area by scores of 25-13 and 25-8. The second pool-play match was against the #1 team in Class B, the Chester Flyers. The Flyers took the close match by scores of 25-21 and 26-24.
After finishing 1-1 in pool play, Dell Rapids was matched against Sioux Falls Christian in the opening round of bracket play. In another close match between the two teams, Dell Rapids won a thriller in three sets by scores of 29-27, 16-25, and 25-22. The win advanced them to the semifinals where they met the Dakota Valley Panthers. The Panthers advanced to the finals with a straight-set win by scores of 25-16 and 25-11.
To wrap up the day, Dell Rapids played their fifth match against Western Christian out of Iowa. Western Christian won the match in straight sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-17.
Sylea Sykes finished with 26 digs, 14 kills, eight set assists, four ace serves, and three blocks for the day. Madelynn Henry had 51 kills, 27 digs, and seven ace serves. Tenley Anderson added 77 set assists, 28 digs, and four blocks. Karlie Ingalls had 13 ace serves, seven kills, and six digs. Peyton Hohn finished with 14 kills, five ace serves, and four blocks. Alaina Wolff had 29 digs and eight set assists, and Elin Schoenhard had 12 kills and three blocks.
