When Dell Rapids and Sioux Falls Christian met on the volleyball court on Thursday, September 4th, it was a battle of the #1 and #2 teams in Class A early in the 2025 season. The two teams did not disappoint and put on a thrilling five-set match. Dell Rapids took the win by set scores of 20-25, 25-22, 28-26, 23-25, and 15-12.
The Quarriers started hot with a 4-0 lead and extended that lead to 9-4. Dell Rapids led by as many as 6, 16-10. Sioux Falls Christian then went on an 11-0 run to take a 21-16 lead. That run kept the Chargers in front the rest of the set all the way to the 25-20 win. After an early 3-2 lead by Dell Rapids in the second set, the score was tied 5-5. Sioux Falls Christian would slowly build a 13-8 lead. The Quarriers rallied to tie the score 16-16 and then went on a 6-1 run for a 22-17 advantage. Dell Rapids would stay in front the resst of the way to a 25-22 win.
The Quarriers took an early 7-4 lead in the third set. After a 7-7 tie, Dell Rapids took a slim 11-8 lead. They maintained a small advantage all the way to 17-16 and 21-19. The Chargers tied the set 21-21. The score was tied again 23-23. Dell Rapids took one point advantages at 24-23 and 25-24, but both times the Chargers tied the score. Sioux Falls Christian then took a 26-25 lead, but Dell Rapids rallied for three straight to win 28-26. Dell Rapids rode that momentum to an early 7-1 lead in the fourth set. Sioux Falls Christian settled themselves and battled to an 11-11 tie. After another tie at 14-14, the Chargers scored five in a row for a 19-14 lead. Dell Rapids was able to get within a point, 23-22 and 24-22, but the Chargers took the win 25-23 to force a fifth set.
The Quarriers started the fifth and final set with a 3-2 lead.. They pushed that lead to 9-4 and then to 12-5. Sioux Falls Christian tied to rally and did cut the lead to 13-11, but Dell Rapids held off a rally for the 15-12 win.
Madelynn Henry finished with 29 kills, two blocks, 15 digs, and six ace serves. Peyton Hohn added 15 kills and five blocks. Tenley Anderson had 51 set assists and six digs. Jocelyn Amundson had six digs and three ace serves. Elin Schoenhard, Sylea Sykes, and Josie Price all had five kills each.
