The Dell Rapids 14U baseball team took second at the 2025 South Dakota VFW Bravo Division State Tournament in Clear Lake held Friday, August 8th through Sunday, August 10th. They played two pool-play games on Friday, a two bracket games on Saturday, and then the championship on Sunday. Dell Rapids finished with an overall record of 3-2 on the weekend.
Tri-Valley 10, Dell Rapids 1
In the first pool-play game on Friday, Tri-Valley took advantage of eight walks, a hit by pitch, and two errors in the first inning. Dell Rapids scored a run in the top of the first, but Tri-Valley scored 10 times in the bottom of the inning. Neither team scored the rest of the game.
AJ Brandenburg and Will Price had the only two hits for Dell Rapids.
Dell Rapids 12, Claremont 2
In the second game of pool-play, Dell Rapids rebounded with a big win in four innings. Each team scored two times in the first inning for a 2-2 score. Dell Rapids then scored seven times in the bottom of the second. The game ended on the 10-run rule after Dell Rapids scored three more runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Brooks Brende had three hits and an RBI. Price had two hits and three RBIs. Charlie Bollock had two hits, one a triple, and two RBIs. Brandenburg also had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Haiden Kaffar had a single and two RBIs. Lucas Peppel had a double, and Owen Bollock had an RBI.
Dell Rapids 7, Wagner 3
In the first bracket game on Saturday, Dell Rapids took an early lead against Wagner. They scored a run in the bottom of the first and then three more in the second for a 4-0 lead. Wagner cut the lead in half, 4-2, with two runs in the top of the fourth. Dell Rapids got those two runs back in the bottom of the fifth to back ahead by four, 6-2. Each team scored a run in the sixth inning.
Kaffar had four hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Price had two singles with an RBI. C. Bollock added a hit with an RBI. Brandenburg and O. Bollock each had a single. Kaffar also pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed three earned runs on five hits and four walks with nine strikeouts.
Dell Rapids 6, Winner 0
The win advanced Dell Rapids to the semifinals on Saturday against Winner. After two scoreless innings, Dell Rapids had a big four-run inning in the top of the third to go ahead 4-0. They added a run in the fifth and then one more in the top of the seventh.
Cam Jones pitched five innings and allowed three hits and three walks with 10 strikeouts. Price pitched two innings and allowed a hit and three walks with three strikeouts. O. Bollock had two hits and two RBIs. Jones also had two hits with an RBI. Brandenburg ended with a single. Price and C. Bollock each had an RBI.
Sisseton 11, Dell Rapids 5
In the championship game on Sunday, Sisseton rallied late to tie the game and then win in extra innings giving Dell Rapids a second-place finish. Sisseton scored two runs in the top of the second and another in the fourth for a 3-0 lead. Dell Rapids scored two times in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 3-2. They then had a three-run fifth inning to take the lead 5-3. The score remained 5-3 until the top of the seventh.
Sisseton got an RBI single with one out to cut the lead to 5-4. The next batter hit an RBI sacrifice fly to center field that tied the game 5-5. Dell Rapids was retired in order in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings. Neither team had a scoring threat in the eighth inning. Sisseton, however, put together a rally with two outs. They had runners on first and second with two outs. The next seven batters rached, and Sisseton scored six times for an 11-5 lead. Dell Rapids got their first two batters on base in the bottom of the ninth, but they were unable to score.
Brandenburg had two hits, including a double. Jones and O. Bollock each had two singles. Kaffar added a double and an RBI. Price and C. Bollock each had a single and an RBI. Peppel and Brende both had a single.
