The Dell Rapids 14U baseball team will be going to the 2025 South Dakota VFW Bravo Division State Tournament after a 3-1 win over Hamlin/Lake Norden at Rickeman Field on Wednesday, July 30th.
After Dell Rapids defeated Hamlin/Lake Norden 15-0 in the first game of the best-of-three series, the second game was a pitcher’s duel. The two teams combined for seven hits. The defenses played well, too, with only two total errors committed in the game.
Dell Rapids broke the 0-0 tie in the bottom of the second when Charlie Bollock scored on a wild pitch. Brooks Brende had an RBI ground out in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead to 2-0. Hamlin/Lake Norden cut the lead to 2-1 in the top of the sixth when they scored on a wild pitch. Dell Rapids got that run back in the bottom of the inning on an RBI ground out by Owen Bollock. Hamlin/Lake Norden tried to generate a rally in the top of the seventh. After a two-out walk, the game ended when the runner was caught stealing.
O. Bollock finished with a single and an RBI. Dawson Bunkers, Haiden Kaffar, Lucas Peppel, and C. Bollock all had one hit each. Brende added an RBI. O. Bollock pitched six innings and allowed an earned run on just two hits and a walk with 10 strikeouts. Bryson Schroeder pitched one inning and allowed one walk.
The state tournament will be held in Clear Lake August 8th through the 10th.
