The Dell Rapids 14U team won the first game of a best-of-three, state-qualifying series against Hamlin/Lake Norden. The winner of the series will advance to the South Dakota VFW Bravo Division state tournament. Dell Rapids took the first game 15-0 on Tuesday, July 29th.
Dell Rapids grabbed momentum right away in the top of the first inning as they scored five times for an early 5-0 lead. They added four more runs in the top of the third with Will Price and AJ Brandenburg delivering RBI doubles. Three more runs scored on RBI hits by Owen Bollock, Brandenburg, and Dawson Bunkers in the top of the fourth to extend the lead to 12-0. They scored three more times in the top of the fifth, and the game ended on the 10-run rule after five innings.
Brandenburg finished with three hits, including a double, and three RBIs. O. Bollock had two hits, one a double, and three RBIs. Bunkers had two hits with two RBIs. Price added two hits, one a double, with an RBI. Cam Jones had two singles and an RBI. Charlie Bollock added a double with an RBI. Haiden Kaffar and Brooks Brende each had one hit. Jones pitched five innings and allowed just one hit and two walks with 12 strikeouts.
