The Dell Rapids Phils advanced in the winner’s bracket side of the Region 2B tournament at Rickeman Field with a 13-4 win over Volga on Tuesday, July 22nd.
Volga struck first with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, but the lead was short lived. Dell Rapids had a big nine-run top of the second for a 9-2 lead. Volga added one run in the bottom of the fourth. The Phils responded with another run in the top of the fifth. They put the game out of reach, 13-3, with three runs in the top of the seventh. Volga scored one more time in the bottom of the seventh.
Cole Ruesink finished with three hits, one a home run, with two RBIs. Drake Eastman had two hits and an RBI. Jackson Peppel also had two hits. Tad Tjaden and Talan Millage each had a hit with two RBIs. Lincoln Fersdahl had a hit and an RBI. Connor Hanson and Mathew Nelson both had a hit.
Millage pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed two runs, both unearned, on six hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Ruesink pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed two unearned runs on two hits.
