Dell Rapids PBR scored four times in the final two innings to steal a 5-3 win over the Hartford/Humboldt Wood Ducks on Tuesday, July 8th.
The Wood Ducks took the lead in the bottom of the first scoring on a wild pitch. They added two runs in the bottom of the third. PBR got one run back in the top of the fifth on a Drew Sweeter RBI single to make the score 3-1. Dell Rapids added another run in the top of the eighth to pull within a run, 3-2, on an RBI single by Nate Nichols. The big inning for PBR came in the top of the ninth when they scored three times to take a 5-3 lead. Weston Hansen had an RBI sacrifice fly, Sweeter had an RBI triple, and Zach Puetz added an RBI double.The Wood Ducks went down in order in the bottom of the ninth to end the game.
Sweeter had four hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Riley Hoffman and Riley Calhoon both had two hits each. Puetz added a double and an RBI. Nichols also had a hit with an RBI. Chris Kropuenske ended with a hit, and Hansen had an RBI.
Brett Mogen pitched seven innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on six hits and a walk with 13 strikeouts. Trey Randel pitched two shutout innings without allowing a hit and recorded four strikeouts.
