The Dell Rapids Red 14U baseball team earned a split in their last two games. They defeated the West Central Royal Blue team on Friday, June 20th, but fell to Madison Gold on Tuesday, June 24th.
Dell Rapids Red 13, West Central Royal Blue 3
Dell Rapids built a 6-0 lead to help them to the 13-3 victory on Friday. They scored two in the bottom of the first, one in the third, and three in the fourth for the 6-0 advantage. West Central got two runs in the top of the fifth, but Dell Rapids answered with four in their half of the inning for a 10-2 score. West Central scored one more time in the top of the sixth, but Dell Rapids ended the game on the 10-run rule with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Lucas Peppel had three hits with an RBI. Dawson Bunkers added two hits and two RBIs. Cam Jones had a single and three RBIs. Brooks Brende and Harper Hansen each had a hit and an RBI. Hudson Wolf finished with a single. Bunkers pitched 4 1/3 innings and allowed two earned runs on a hit and five walks with eight strikeouts. Peppel pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed an earned run on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
Madison 6, Dell Rapids Red 1
Three early runs was enough for Madison in their win on Tuesday. Madison broke a scoreless tie with a three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Dell Rapids got a run in the top of the fourth to make the score 3-1, but Madison added a run in their half of the fourth inning and then scored two more times in the bottom of the fifth for the 6-1 score.
Brende, Bunkers, and Jones had the only three hits in the game, each of them getting a single. Charlie Bollock pitched four innings and allowed four runs, two earned, on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Brende pitched two innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
