The Dell Rapids Quarrier softball team finished third at the state tournament for the third straight time. Dell Rapids finished 2-1 at the 2025 South Dakota State A Softball Tournament in Aberdeen Thursday, June 5th through Saturday, June 7th.
Dell Rapids 6, Sioux Valley 2
The Quarriers scored the first six runs against the Cossacks in the opening round on Thursday. Dell Rapids scored a run in the bottom of the first. They added three more in the bottom of the third and two in the fourth for a 6-0 lead. Sioux Valley scratched across two runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Kayleigh Gillette had two hits, one a triple. Lexi Scherff also had two hits, one of them a double. Katie Kvigne had a double with two RBIs. Emma Lanpher had a single and an RBI. Paige Trewin added a triple. Kvigne pitched seven innings and allowed two earned runs on two hits and a walk with 12 strikeouts.
West Central 6, Dell Rapids 4
The Trojans scored four early runs and held off Dell Rapids in the semifinal game on Friday. West Central scored three times in the bottom of the first for an early 3-0 lead. They scored another run in the bottom of the third to extend the lead to 4-0. Dell Rapids responded with three runs in the top of the fourth to make the score 4-3. West Central, however, added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 6-3 advantage. The Quarriers got one more run in the top of the sixth.
Gillette finished with two singles. Kvigne had a double with two RBIs. Addison Van’t Hof had a single and an RBI. Lanpher and Ella Johnson both had a single. Scherff pitched two innings and allowed four runs, one earned, on four hits with one strikeout. Kvigne pitched the final four innings and allowed two earned runs on two hits and one walk with seven strikeouts.
Dell Rapids 8, Dakota Valley 0
The Quarriers scored in every inning but two and cruised to an 8-0 win over the Panthers to take third place on Saturday. Dell Rapids got a run in the top of the first inning. They added three in the third and two in the fourth for a 6-0 lead. Dell Rapids would get single runs in both the sixth and seventh innings.
Kvigne had three hits, two of them doubles, and three RBIs. Gillette added two singles and two RBI. Lanpher, Johnson, Van’t Hof, and Elly Olson all had two hits each. Rylee Halverson added a single with an RBI. Trewin also had a single. Kvigne pitched all seven innings and allowed five hits and had 10 strikeouts.
