Quarrier Softball “Walks off” Dakota Valley

The Dell Rapids Quarrier softball team earned a 6-5 walk-off win over the Dakota Valley Panthers to end the regular season on Tuesday, May 20th.  The game was moved to Augustana University in Sioux Falls due to wet field conditions in Dell Rapids.

The Quarriers got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning.  Addison Van’t Hof had an RBI single, and Lexi Scherff added a two-run double to give Dell Rapids a 3-0 lead.  Ella Johnson added an RBI triple, and Scherff drove home another run in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead to 5-0.  The score remained 5-0 until the seventh inning.

Dakota Valley got on the board with a bases-loaded RBI single with one out to make the score 5-1.  After a force out at home for the second out, the Panthers hit back-to-back doubles to tie the game 5-5.  Despite seeing their lead vanish, Dell Rapids was poised in the bottom of the inning.  Paige Trewin drew a lead-off walk.  Emma Lanpher followed with a bunt single and both runners advanced an extra base on an error.  Katie Kvige was intentionally walked to load the bases with no outs.  Rylee Halverson then delivered the game-winning hit.

Scherff finished with two hits, one a double, with three RBIs.  Van’t Hof and Halverson both had two singles and an RBI each.  Johnson had a triple with an RBI.  Lanpher and Kvige both had one hit each.  Kvigne pitched seven innings and allowed five earned runs on seven hits and a walk with eight strikeouts.
