The Dell Rapids high school baseball team won their last three games and increased their winning streak to seven straight games. They earned a win over Sioux Falls Christian on Wednesday, May 7th, a win over Flandreau on Thursday, May 8th, and then a win over Mt Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica/Stickney (MVPCS) on Sunday, May 11th.
Dell Rapids 8, Sioux Falls Christian 5
Seven early runs helped Dell Rapids to the win over Sioux Falls Christian on May 7th. Dell Rapids scored five times in the bottom of the first. Sioux Falls Christian got a run in the top of the second, but Dell Rapids responded with two more in the bottom of the second for a 7-1 lead. Sioux Falls Christian cut the lead to 7-4 with three runs in the top of the third. The score remained 7-4 until the bottom of the fifth. Dell Rapids scored one more time in the fifth. Sioux Falls Christian added another run in the top of the seventh.
Tad Tjaden had two hits with an RBI. Ryan Brandenberg had a single with two RBIs. Connor Hanson added a single and an RBI. Cole Ruesink, Jackson Peppel, and Talan Millage all had one hit each. Tjaden pitched 2 2/3 innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on three hits and four walks with four strikeouts. Lincoln Fersdahl pitched 4 1/3 innings and allowed an earned run on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
Dell Rapids 13, Flandreau 0
Dell Rapids scored in every inning to blank Flandreau 13-0. They scored a run in the bottom of the first, three in the second, and three more in the third. Dell Rapids then had a six-run bottom of the fourth for the 13-0 score. After a scoreless top of the fifth, the game ended on the 10-run rule.
Carson Maeschen had two hits, including a home run, and four RBIs. Peppel had two hits and an RBI. Drake Eastman and Hanson both had a double with two RBIs. Cooper Frost added a single with an RBI. Ruesink and Millage both had a hit. Brandon Schmidt had an RBI. Ryan Stubbe pitched all five innings and allowed four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.
Dell Rapids 10, MVPCS 0
Eastman allowed just two hits with no walks over five innings against MVPCS while striking out seven while the offense put 10 runs on the board in a 10-0 on Mother’s Day. The first inning went scoreless, but Dell Rapids scored a run in the second, two in the third, and two in the fourth. They would plate five runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game on the 10-run rule.
Ruesink had three hits, including a double and triple, with an RBI. Frost ended with two hits and an RBI. Maeschen had a double and two RBIs. Schmidt added a single and two RBIs. Tjaden had a single and an RBI, and Brandenburg had a single.
