Quarrier Softball Takes Two on Back-to-Back Days

The Dell Rapids Quarrier softball team won two games on back-to-back days.  They earned a road win at Vermillion on Thursday, April 17th, and then grabbed a road win at Beresford on Friday, April 18th.

Dell Rapids 17, Vermillion 2

The Quarriers scored 12 straight runs to start the game against the Tanagers.  They scored two runs in the top of the first, six in the top of the third, and four in the top of the fourth for a 12-0 lead.  Vermillion got one run in the bottom of the fourth.  Dell Rapids then added five more runs in the top of the fifth.  The Tanagers scored one time in the bottom of the fifth, and the game ended on the 10-run rule.

Rylee Halverson had three hits, one a home run, and four RBIs.  Lexi Scherff had two hits, one a triple, with three RBIs.  Katie Kvigne added two hits, one a double, and three RBIs.  Elly Olson had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs.  Paige Trewin and Ella Johnson both had two hits, one a double, with an RBI each.  Emma Lanpher had two singles.  Addison Van’t Hof had a hit and an RBI.  Sylea Sykes had an RBI.  Kvigne pitched five innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits with 11 strikeouts.

Dell Rapids 14, Beresford 4

The Quarriers put the game away in the top of the seventh inning to take the win over Beresford.  Dell Rapids scored a run in the top of the first for an early 1-0 lead.  They added two more in the top of the third to go ahead 3-0.  The Watchdogs added a run in the bottom of the third to make the score 3-1.  Dell Rapids would get another run in the fourth and three more in the fifth for a 7-1 lead.  Beresford got three of those runs back in the bottom of the sixth and cut the lead to 7-4 going into the seventh.  The Quarriers, however, scored seven times in the top of the seventh to secure the win.

Kvigne had four hits, including a double and triple, and three RBIs.  Lanpher had two hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Halverson also two hits and an RBI.  Scherff and Olson both had two singles each.  Kayleigh Gillette had a single with three RBIs, and Sykes had a hit and an RBI.  Kvigne pitched seven innings and allowed four runs, two earned, on five hits and a walk with 12 strikeouts.
