The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls and Mt Vernon/Plankinton Titans got locked in a close battle in Dell Rapids on Tuesday, January 28th on Senior Night. The Titans edged Dell Rapids 53-49 in overtime.
The Quarriers started the game well scoring 17 points in the opening quarter. Dell Rapids led 17-12 at the break. They increased their lead to 20-12 with 6:35 to go in the half. Mt Vernon/Plankinton cut the lead to just two points, 25-23, by halftime.
The second half went back and forth between the two teams. Dell Rapids held a slim 39-38 lead going into the fourth quarter. Neither team was able to get much of an advantage in the fourth quarter, and regulation ended in a 45-45 tie. The Titans got the upper hand in the overtime period and outscored Dell Rapids 8-4 in the extra period for the win.
Dell Rapid shot 36% (18-50) overall in the game and 44% (7-16) from three-point area. The Titans shot 35% (17-49) overall and just 1-13 from three-point area. The game came down to the free-throw line. Dell Rapids was 6-12 overall from the charity stripe, while the Titans shot 18-28 from the free-throw line.
Rorie Thoreson had 17 points and three rebounds. Elin Schoenhard finished with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and two assists. Jersi Schultz tallied 10 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and three blocked shots. Elly Olson had six points, four rebounds, and four assists.
