Strong Defensive First Half Key to Quarrier Girls Win

The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls played a strong defensive first half to help them to a 44-26 win over the Garretson Blue Dragons on Thursday, January 23rd.

The Quarriers held the Blue Dragons to just four points total in the first half, two points in each quarter.  That strong defense helped Dell Rapids built a lead they wouldn’t lose.  The Quarriers led 14-2 at the end of the first quarter and 26-4 at halftime.  Garretson found a little offensive groove in the third quarter, but the deficit was too much.  The Quarriers led 40-20 going into the fourth quarter.

Dell Rapids shot 30% (17-56) overall in the game, but just 1-16 from three-point area, and 9-17 from the free-throw line.  Garretson shot 24% (10-42) overall, 25% (3-12) from three-point area, and 3-6 from the free-throw line.

Elin Schoenhard finished with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Jersi Schultz had seven points and 10 rebounds.  Elly Olson added six points.  Kassiddee Stykel had five points and two steals.  Josie Price had four points, five rebounds, and three steals.  Rorie Thoreson ended with three points, seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
