The Dell Rapids Quarrier football team is coming off back-to-back undefeated championship seasons, but this year’s team will have a new leader. Derek Genzlinger takes over as head coach for the 2024 season.
Seniors Cole Ruesink, Tad Tjaden, Lincoln Fersdahl, Quinn Carr, Brandon Schmidt, Cooper Frost, Will Ronshaugen, and junior Carson Maeschen return as starters from last season. Dell Rapids will also expect numerous other upperclassmen to step up and play a significant role this year.
“We have about 80 kids on the team, so that allows us to be very versatile and have a lot of depth, which is very important with our schedule this year. Our biggest area of focus has just been developing all our guys and working to find which ones are the best fit to make us the most complete team we can be,” said Genzlinger.
He also added that the guys have had a great summer in the weight room and at camps. The energy at practice has been very high, and Genzlinger mentioned that the guys are hungry to prove that just because the team lost some great players doesn’t mean that what they have coming back can’t put together a special season.
Dell Rapids will host Dakota Valley on Friday, August 30th to start the 2024 season.
