Dell Rapids PBR notched their second win at the 2024 South Dakota State B Amateur Baseball Tournament in Mitchell on Tuesday, August 13th. PBR defeated Milbank 13-3 to advance to the quarterfinal round.
Trey Randel was strong on the mound throwing 6 2/3 innings and allowing three runs, but all unearned, on four hits and two walks with 10 strikeouts. Brayden Pankonen, Drew Sweeter, and Heith Williams combined for nine of the 16 total hits and 10 of the 12 team RBIs.
PBR scored five times in the bottom of the second inning which included an RBI single by Pankonen and a two-run home run by Williams. The score remained 5-0 until the top of the sixth. Milbank cut the lead to 5-3 after a three-run top of the sixth. PBR extended the lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by D. Sweeter. PBR extended the lead to 11-3 in the bottom of the seventh and then ended the game on the 10-run rule with two runs in the eighth.
Pankonen finished with four hits and three RBIs. D. Sweeter had three singles with three RBIs. Williams had two hits, including a home run, and four RBIs. CJ Smith added a hit and an RBI. Beau Behrend, Weston Hansen, Conner Spindler, Riley Hoffman, Nate McKee, and Riley Calhoon all had one hit each. Matt Gillogly also had an RBI.
