Mudcats Stunned in State Tournament

The Dell Rapids Mudcats had their season come to an end at the State B Tournament in Mitchell on Friday, August 9th.  The Mudcats lost the Platte Killer Tomatoes 1-0 in the opening round.

Kris Regas and Grant Doom got locked into a pitcher’s dual all game long.  Neither pitcher allowed any runs for the first seven innings of the game.  Michael Buitenbos started the top of the eighth with a double for Platte.  He was moved over to third on a sacrifice bunt.  Sheldon Gant hit a ground ball that allowed Buitenbos to score for a 1-0 lead.  The Mudcats loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth with two outs but were unable to score the tying run.

Dell Rapids was held to just one hit in the game.  Carter Gullickson had a single.  Regas pitched all nine innings and allowed an unearned run on five hits and one walk with 16 strikeouts.

The Mudcats finish the 2024 season with a 24-3 overall record.
