Big Fourth Inning Ends Phils Season

Parkston used a big fourth inning to defeat the Dell Rapids Phils 14-4 in an elimination game at the state tournament in Salem on Monday, August 5th.

Dell Rapids broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third.  Cole Ruesink had an RBI single.  Ruesink and CJ Smith scored on an error to give the Phils a 3-0 lead.  Parkston then had a 10-run fourth inning to go ahead 10-3.  They added four more in the top of the fifth inning.  Dell Rapids only got one run in the bottom of the fourth, so the game ended on the 10-run rule.

Ruesink finished with a single and an RBI.  Smith, Tad Tjaden, Treyse Eastman, Drake Eastman, and Sutton Williams all had one hit each.  Will Zwach added an RBI.  Quinn Carr pitched three innings and allowed five runs, four earned, on one hit, four walks, and two hit batters with three strikeouts.  Talan Millage pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed nine runs, five earned, on eight hits and a walk with two strikeouts.  Zwach pitched 2/3 of an inning.

The Phils finished the 2024 season with a 23-6 overall record.
