Early runs were key to the Dell Rapids Mudcats winning the District 4B Tournament against Canova on Saturday, August 3rd.
Canova scored a run in the top of the first inning for an early 1-0 lead. The Mudcats took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the first, 2-1. They then had a big five-run second inning to extend the lead to 7-1. Canvoa fought back with four innings in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 7-5. Dell Rapids added another run in the fifth for an 8-5 score. Canova got a single run in the top of the sixth. The score remained 8-6 until the top of the eighth. Canova scored one run with two outs, but they were held there the rest of the game.
Kole Zimmerman and Kris Regas both had three hits with two RBIs each. Mark Abrahamson added two hits and two RBIs. Carter Gullickson and Chad Hunt each had two singles and an RBI. Trevor Freudenthal had a double, and Ty Hoglund finished with a single.
