The Dell Rapids 14U baseball team finished 0-2 at the 2024 South Dakota VFW 14u State A Tournament in Beresford held Friday, July 26th through Sunday, July 28th.
Beresford 14, Dell Rapids 9
Dell Rapids held an early lead against Beresford in their opening round game, but a late rally by Beresford gave them the win. Each team scored a run in the first inning. Dell Rapids scored another run in the top of the second and four more in the top of the third for a 6-1 lead. Beresford rallied for five runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game 6-6.
Dell Rapids would go back in front, 8-6, with two runs in the top of the fourth. Beresford cut the lead to one, 8-7, with a run in the bottom of the inning. The Black Sox then took the lead for good with five runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 12-8 score. Dell Rapids got one run in the top of the sixth to pull within three, 12-9, but Beresford got two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Rowdy Bowen had a double and two RBIs. Eli Gullickson and Owen Bollock each had a single with an RBI. Rhett Thoreson, Cutler Erickson, and Lucas Peppel all had one hit each. Camden Jones finished with an RBI.
Milbank 14, Dell Rapids 8
A middle innings rally by Milbank helped them to a come-from-behind win in a consolation game on Saturday. Both teams scored two runs in the first inning. Dell Rapids would get a single run in the bottom of the second and third innings to take a 4-2 lead. Milbank then had a big five-run top of the fourth followed by a three-run fifth to go in front 10-4. Dell Rapids got single runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to make the score 10-6. Milbank, however, added four more runs in the seventh while Dell Rapids scored only two.
Knox Cuny had three hits, one a triple, and an RBI. O. Bollock had two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Gullickson also had two hits. Edgar Vazquez added a single with two RBIs. Haiden Kaffar and Peppel both had one hit each. Charlie Bollock had an RBI.
