The Dell Rapids Phils punched their ticket back to the state tournament after winning the Region 2B tournament in Madison on Friday, July 26th. Dell Rapids defeated Madison for the second straight night, this time by a score of 11-1.
Madison took advantage of batting first in the game and scored a run in the opening inning for a 1-0 lead. It was all Dell Rapids after that. The Phils scored five times in the bottom of the inning for a 5-1 lead. They added two more runs in the fourth to extend the lead to 7-1. Dell Rapids scored four times in the bottom of the sixth to end the game on the 10-run rule.
Drake Eastman shut down Madison from the mound. He allowed one earned run on three hits and four walks with nine strikeouts over six innings of work. CJ Smith paced the offense with two singles and three RBIs. Talan Millage had a single and an RBI. Cole Ruesink added a double. Tad Tjaden, Mason Stubbe, and Lincoln Fersdahl all had one hit each.
The 2024 South Dakota State B Legion Tournament will be held in Salem August 2nd – 6th.
