Dell Rapids PBR and Salem split a Cornbelt League doubleheader on Sunday, June 23rd.
Salem 6, Dell Rapids PBR 4
Dell Rapids PBR held a 4-1 lead after two innings of play, but Salem rallied late to earn the win. The Cubs got a run in the fifth, one in the sixth, and then three in the top of the seventh.
Nate McKee had a double and an RBI. Drew Sweeter and Will Jaton both had a single and an RBI. Riley Hoffman had two hits, including a double. Weston Hansen finished with a single, and Beau Behrend had an RBI. Hoffman pitched six innings and allowed four earned runs on six hits and a walk with four strikeouts. D. Sweeter pitched an inning and allowed two runs, one earned, on a hit and walk with a strikeout.
Dell Rapids PBR 9, Salem 0
PBR’s offense rallied in the second game to earn the split. They scored four runs right away in the top of the first inning and then added another in the second for a 5-0 lead. Dell Rapids put four more runs on the board in the top of the sixth.
Zach Puetz had two hits and three RBIs. Matt Gillogly added two singles and an RBI. Jaton had a double and an RBI. D. Sweeter added a double. McKee had a single, and Behrend finished with two RBIs. D. Sweeter pitched all seven innings and allowed six hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
