Dell Rapids Girls Nearly Get Back into Win Column

The Dell Rapids Quarriers had a 24-23 lead and the ball with :45 remaining in the game, but a couple of steals and four made free-throws by the Elkton-Lake Benton Elks kept the Quarriers from getting back into the win column.  The Elks took the win 27-24.

Made baskets were hard to come by as both teams shot under 20%, and both defenses forced 26 turnovers each.  Dell Rapids shot 19.6% (9-46) overall and 10.5% (2-19) from three-point area.  The Elks shot 16.7% (6-36) overall and 0-11 on their three-point attempts.  The difference came from the free-throw line.  Dell Rapids shot 33% (4-12) while the Elks shot 60% (15-2).

Dell Rapids took momentum early and led 11-4 at the end of the first quarter.  Elkton-Lake Benton’s defense held the Quarriers scoreless as they took a 16-11 lead into halftime.  The Quarriers cut the lead in half and trailed 21-18 going into the fourth quarter.  They would tie the game 21-21 after a three-point play by Jersi Schultz with 7:30 to go in the game.  The next basket came just over three minutes later by the Elks for a 23-21 lead.  Mya De Stigter gave the Quarriers a 24-23 lead with two made free-throws with 1:08 remaining before the final four points by the Elks.

Schultz finished with 13 points and seven rebounds.  Elly Olson had six points, six rebounds, and five steals.  De Stigter had three points and three rebounds.  Rorie Thoreson added two points, three rebounds, two assists, and four steals.  Josie Price added six rebounds and five steals.  Clara Justice had eight rebounds.
