For over two and half quarters, the Dell Rapids Quarriers were step-for-step with the Sioux Valley Cossacks on Friday, January 19th. Sioux Valley, however, would pull away late for a 58-40 win.
Dell Rapids opened the game with an 8-0 run and led 13-5 at the end of the first quarter. The Cossacks took their first lead at 19-17 with 3:00 to play in the second quarter. They extended that lead to 22-17, but Dell Rapids cut the lead to 22-21 by halftime.
The Quarriers started the third quarter on a 5-0 run and regained the lead 26-22 with 7:00 to go. Sioux Valley responded with a 5-0 run and took the lead back, 27-26, with 5:30 to play. After a 28-28 tie, the Cossacks went ahead 31-30. After two made free throws, Dell Rapids trailed by just one point, 31-30, with 2:30 to go in the third quarter. The Cossacks ended the quarter on a 12-2 run for a 43-32 lead. They extended that lead to 50-32 with 6:00 to play in the game. Dell Rapids got no closer than 10 points, 50-40, with 4:00 left in the game.
Rorie Thoreson had 14 points, three rebounds, and two assists. Jersi Schutlz had seven points and four rebounds. Elly Olson added five points, six rebounds, and three assists. Mya De Stigter, Josie Price, and Clara Justice all had four points each. Justice also had eight rebounds.
