The Dell Rapids Quarriers got a big Region 3A and Dak-12 Conference win at home on Thursday, January 18th. The Quarriers defeated the Madison Bulldogs 55-53 after a fourth quarter really.
Dell Rapids raced out to an early 9-3 lead in the first quarter. Madison tied the score 10-10 with 2:20 to play. The Quarriers finished the first quarter with a 16-12 lead. The Bulldogs opened the second quarter with an 8-2 run to tie the game 18-18 with 5:40 left in the half. Madison slowly built a 30-24 and ended the first half with a 34-30 advantage.
The Bulldogs pushed their lead back to six points, 40-34, with 5:09 to play in the third quarter. They continued to lead throughout the quarter and held a 48-42 lead going into the fourth. Dell Rapids scored the first six points of the fourth quarter to tie the game 48-48. Madison responded with five straight points to go ahead 53-48 with 5:00 to play in the game. The Bulldogs were then held scoreless the rest of the game. Dell Rapids took the lead 54-53 with 1:23 to go and then added a free throw with :14.2 remaining. Madison had two good looks in the closing seconds to tie the game, but both shots just missed as Dell Rapids held for the win.
The Quarriers shot 45% (22-49) overall, 11% (2-18) from three-point area, and 64% (9-14) from the free-throw line. Madison finished the game shooting 37% (22-59) overall, 24% (6-25) on three-point attempts, and 3-4 from the free-throw line.
Jack Henry had a game-high 32 points with seven rebounds and three steals. Cole Ruesink added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Rhett Kloth finished with five points and five rebounds. Treyse Eastman had four points and three rebounds.
