Quarrier Girls Fall at Home to Fighting Cougars

The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls basketball team hosted the McCook Central/Montrose Fighting Cougars on Tuesday, January 2nd.  The first half proved to be the difference in the game as the Cougars took the win 55-41.

McCook Central/Montrose built a 17-6 lead by the end of the first quarter.  Dell Rapids stayed with the Cougars in the second quarter, but McCook Central/Montrose led 31-18 at halftime.  The Quarriers cut the lead to 31-23 in the first two minutes of the third quarter, but the Cougars ended the quarter on a 9-2 run for a 40-25 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Dell Rapids shot 33% (17-51) overall in the game, 27% (4-15) from three-point area, and 3-4 from the free-throw line.  McCook Central/Montrose shot 55% (23-42) overall, 1-4 on three-point attempts, and 8-10 from the free-throw line.

Three players finished in double figures for Dell Rapids.  Jersi Schultz had 11 points, 10 rebounds, three steals, and two blocked shots.  Shelby Welbig had 10 points and four rebonds.  Rorie Thoreson also had 10 points with two rebounds and two assists.  Mya Destigter ended with six points, and Elly Olson had four points, three rebounds, and three steals.
