A big fourth quarter rally helped the Dell Rapids Quarrier girls start their 2023-2024 season with a win on Thursday, December 7th. Dell Rapids traveled to Madison and brought home a 45-31 win.
The two offenses struggled a bit in the first quarter. Dell Rapids ended the first quarter with an 8-6 lead. The Quarriers held a 12-11 lead with 3:15 to play in the second quarter and then finished the half on a 6-0 run for an 18-11 halftime lead.
Dell Rapids started the third quarter on a 4-0 run for a 22-11 lead with 7:00 to play. The Bulldogs cut the lead to 22-19 over the next two minutes. The Quarriers pushed the lead to 30-27 with 2:00 left in the quarter, but Madison cut the lead to 30-27 by the end of the third quarter. The Dell Rapids defense then held Madison to just four points in the final quarter while the offense found their groove. The Quarriers outscored Madison 15-4 to secure the win.
Dell Rapids shot 33% (19-58) overall from the field, 1-11 on three-point attempts, and 6-11 from the free-throw line. Madison finished the game shooting 29% (11-38) from the field, 0-8 on three-point attempts, and 9-20 from the free-throw line. The Quarriers had 20 turnovers, and Madison had 26 turnovers.
Elly Olson finished with 14 points, seven rebounds, two steals, and two assists. Clara Justice had 10 points, seven rebounds, and four steals. Rorie Thoreson added nine points, five rebounds, and four assists. Jersi Schultz finished with eight points and eight rebounds.
