The Garretson/Dell Rapids Blue Dragon girls soccer team split their first two matches of the 2023 season. They traveled to Belle Fourche on Friday, August 11th and then played St Thomas More on Saturday, August 12th.
Garretson 2, Belle Fourche 0
The season started with a win for the Blue Dragons in Belle Fourche. Both goals were scored by senior Jordyn Williams. The second goal of the game came late in the second half. Kirti Pickard had a breakaway shot on goal that nearly missed and was deflected by the goalie to Williams who then found the back of the next.
Quite a few Blue Dragons had shots on goal in the match. Kylie Christensen had eight shots on goal. Williams finished with six. Adi Fink finished with four shots on goal. Ella Frerk and Anna Ebbing each had three. Cortney Rogich was strong in net with five saves including a save on a penalty kick late in the match.
St Thomas More 2, Garretson 1
The Blue Dragons had a 1-0 lead through the first half of the match on Saturday. Christensen put the ball in the back of the next on a beautiful pass from Frerk through the defensive line. In the second half, however, St Thomas More came out hard and were able to score two goals. Garretson/Dell Rapids battled back, but eventually ran out of time to even the score.
Rogich had 20 saves in the match.
