The Dell Rapids 14U baseball team had their 2023 season come to an end in Region 5A play on Wednesday, July 12th. Dell Rapids fell to Madison Black in the championship game by a score of 3-2.
For the first three innings, the game was scoreless. Madison broke the tie with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jackson Peppel hit a two-out RBI single in the top of the fifth to tie the game 1-1. Madison would regain the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the fifth with another run. Peppel drove home the trying run again, this time in the top of the seventh inning. An RBI single with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the seventh provided the winning run for Madison.
Peppel had two hits and two RBIs. Jake Heinitz also had two hits. Thomas LaVoy and Hayden Hanson both had one hit each. Gage Bunkers pitched 6 2/3 innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on seven hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.
Dell Rapids finished with a 16-4 overall season record.
