The Dell Rapids Legion, now going by the Phils this season to honor Phil Anderson who coached Post 65 for 25 years and led them to two state titles in 1968 and 1969, won four games between Saturday, Jun 10th and Sunday, June 11th. Dell Rapids earned wins over Mt Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica-Stickney (MVPCS), Crofton, Concordia, and Fairbury.
Dell Rapids 10, MVPCS 6
The Phils scored eight runs in the final two innings to earn a 10-6 win over the MVPCS Padres on Saturday. The Padres scored the first two runs in the bottom of the second. Dell Rapids got a run in the top of the third and another in the top of the fourth to tie the game 2-2. MVPCS took the lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Dell Rapids then scored five times in the top of fifth. After the Padres got a run back in the fifth to make the score 7-4. The Phils added three more runs in the top of the sixth. MVPCS earned two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Drake Eastman had three hits and two RBIs. CJ Smith had two hits, including a double. Joe Rechtenbaugh finished with two RBIs. Dylan Kindt, Mason Stubbe, Sutton Williams, and Konrad Richeal all had one RBI each. Treyse Eastman pitched four innings and allowed four earned runs on six hits and four walks with seven strikeouts. D. Eastman pitched 1 2/3 innings allowing one unearned run on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Smith pitched 1/3 of an inning allowing an unearned run with one walk.
Dell Rapids 11, Crofton, NE 7
The Phils scored in every inning but one earning a come-from-behind win over Crofton on Saturday. Dell Rapids grabbed an early 1-0 lead. Crofton took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the second. After another run by Dell Rapids in the top of the third, Crofton scored two more runs in the bottom of the inning for a 5-2 lead.
Dell Rapids started their comeback in the fourth inning. The Phils scored two runs in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 5-4. Crofton got another run in the bottom of the inning. Dell Rapids then scored seven straight runs. They got three in the fifth, one in the sixth, and three more in the seventh. Crofton scored their final run in the bottom of the seventh.
Aiden Boechler had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Rechtenbaugh had two hits, one a double, and two RBIs. Smith had a hit and two RBIs. Kindt finished with a double and an RBI. Brayden Pankonen and D. Eastman both had a single. Rechtenbaugh pitched three innings and allowed five runs, four earned, on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Pankonen pitched 3 2/3 innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on two hits with five strikeouts. Smith pitched 1/3 of an inning allowing a hit and two walks.
Dell Rapids 11, Concordia, NE 5
Dell Rapids broke a 5-5 tie with a six-run bottom of the fourth for an 11-5 win over Concordia on Sunday. Dell Rapids scored a run in the bottom of the second. Concordia tied it with a run in the top of the third. The Phils scored four times in the bottom of the third. Concordia tied the game again with four runs in the top of the fourth. Dell Rapids broke that tie with their big fourth inning.
Kindt had three hits, including a double. T. Eastman had two hits and three RBIs. Rechtenbaugh also had two hits with two RBIs. D. Eastman added a single and two RBIs. Smith had a hit and an RBI. Pankonen also had a hit in the game. D. Eastman pitched 3 2/3 innings allowing five runs, one earned, on three hits and six walks with seven strikeouts. Will Jaton pitched 1/3 of an inning.
Dell Rapids 5, Fairbury, NE 2
The Phils scored five times in the top of the seventh to take the game over Fairbury, NE on Sunday for their fourth straight win. Fairbury scored one run in the bottom of the third and one in the bottom of the fifth to lead 2-0 after five innings of play.
Kindt had a triple and three RBIs. T. Eastman had a hit and an RBI. D. Eastman finished with two hits. Boechler, Rechtenbaugh, and Jaton all had one hit each. Richeal pitched all seven innings allowing two earned runs on eight hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
