Another big first half lifted the Dell Rapids Quarriers to a 66-39 win over the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies at home on Saturday, January 23rd. This was the third straight win for the Quarriers.
Dell Rapids used a big first half to build a lead that put the running clock in motion in the second half. The Quarriers didn’t allow the Huskies to make their first field goal of the game until 1:10 left in the first quarter. Dell Rapids led 26-7 after the first quarter. The Huskies made a little run in the second quarter. They cut the lead to 13 points at 30-17 with 5:30 to go in the half. The Quarriers then went on a 25-7 run to lead 55-24 at halftime.
With the 31-point lead at the break, the running clock was in play the entire second half. The Quarriers outscored Elk Point-Jefferson 8-1 in the third quarter, but the Huskies had the better fourth quarter at 14-3.
The Quarriers were 45% (19-42) from the field, 37% (7-19) from three-point area, and 81% (21-26) from the free-throw line. Dell Rapids also only turned the ball over six times in the game.
Colin Rentz finished with 20 points, five rebounds, two steals, and two assists. Brayden Pankonen had 17 points and two steals. Carter Nelson finished with nine points, three rebounds, and three blocks. Landon Ruesink had five points, seven rebounds, and three assists.
