Tuesday, December 11th, the Dell Rapids St Mary girl’s and boy’s basketball teams traveled to Centerville (games which were scheduled to be on Big Sioux Media, but due to constraints in Centerville were unable to broadcast) and returned later that evening with only 1 of 4 opportunities for victories between the varsity and junior varsity teams.
In the girls’ varsity game, the intense defense played by the Cardinals kept the game close in the first half, as they trailed by only four points at intermission, 27-23. In the 3rd quarter, Centerville outscored the Caridnals 15-5 to take a 19 point lead into the 4th quarter. The Tornadoes ended up with the win 59-44. The Cardinal JV girl’s team won their game by nine points.
In the boys games, Centerville defeated the Cardinals, 87-38, in the varsity game with the Tornadoes never in any threat of losing the game. The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals had only one player in double figures, Jared Scholten, who score 10 points. The JV boys also were defeated by Centerville.
