Colton Legion Even on the Season

The Colton Legion baseball team currently has a .500 record (6-6) through 12 games this season.  They are a little over halfway through the regular season with nine more games on the schedule.

Colton dropped a game to Vermillion on Saturday, June 19th by a score of 12-5.  They bounced back with an 8-6 victory over Tea at home on Tuesday, June 22nd.  Lake Norden picked up two wins against Colton in a double-header in Colton on Saturday, June 26th.  Lake Norden won the games 3-2 and 2-1.  Colton got a win in their last game on Sunday, June 27th at Flandreau 10-5.

Colton will have three straight home games starting Thursday, July 1st.  They will host Madison on Thursday, Canova on Friday, July 2nd, and then Tea on Monday, July 5th.

Tri-Valley White 14U Scores Late, but Falls to Hamlin

Tri-Valley White 14U scored six times in the final two innings, but Hamlin built a large enough lead early in the game.  Hamlin defeated Tri-Valley 16-6 in five innings.

Hamlin scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and then two more in the second for a 7-0 lead.  Tri-Valley got on the board in top of the fourth inning.  Landon Schenkel scored on a passed ball, L Kretzschmar scored on a passed ball, and M Cypher scored on an error to cut the lead to 7-3.  Hamlin, however, scored eight times in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead to 15-3. 

Tri-Valley got three more runs in the top of the fifth inning.  P Hemme stole home.  Cypher drew a bases-loaded walk for an RBI, and Schenkel scored on a wild pitch.  Hamlin scored one time in the bottom of the fifth to end the game on the 10-run rule.

Gage Egger had the only hit for Tri-Valley.  Cypher had the only RBI.  Schenkel pitched two innings allowing seven runs, four earned, on four hits with four walks and four strikeouts.  Dylan Christensen pitched 1 1/3 innings allowing five earned runs on two hits with five walks and two strikeouts.  Brenner Struiksma pitched one inning allowing four runs, three earned, on three hits with three walks and a strikeout.

Sioux Valley Scores Late, Defeats Tri-Valley 16U

Sioux Valley erased a three-run deficit by scoring eight straight runs for a 12-7 win over Tri-Valley 16U on Monday, June 28th.

Tri-Valley put together a big bottom of the first inning.  Noah Haynes and Beau Keith had RBI singles.  Tanner Van Asselt had a two-run single to give Tri-Valley a 4-0 lead.  Sioux Valley scored three in the top of the second inning to cut the lead to 4-3.   They then tied the game with a run in the top of the third.  Tri-Valley regained the lead in the bottom of the third.  Holden Rise had a two-run single, and Cole Focken scored on an error.  Tri-Valley led 7-4 after three innings.

Sioux Valley then went on a run.  They scored two runs in the top of the fourth, five more in the top of the fifth, and one run in the top of the seventh for the 12-7 win.

Haynes had two hits and an RBI.  Focken also had two hits.  Rise and Van Asselt both had a hit and two RBIs.  Keith had a hit and an RBI. 

Keith pitched four innings allowing six runs, one earned, on three hits with two walks and six strikeouts.  Focken pitched 1/3 of an inning allowing five earned runs on a hit with four walks.  Aidan Heitkamp pitched 2 2/3 innings allowing an unearned run.

Parker Defeats Tri-Valley White 14U in Five Innings

Parker scored in every inning, including scoring 10 runs in the fifth inning, in a 21-2 win over Tri-Valley White 14U on Friday, June 25th.

Parker had scored 11 runs in the first four innings before Tri-Valley was able to get on the board.  Tri-Valley got a run in the bottom of the fourth in an RBI ground out by Matthew Cypher.  Tri-Valley’s other run came in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI ground out by Dylan Christensen.

Denton Bicknase had two hits for Tri-Valley.  Gage Egger had a triple.  Parker Hemme finished with a double, and Grant Schlueter had a single.

Bicknase pitched 1 2/3 innings allowing nine runs, four earned, on four hits with one walk and three strikeouts.  Levi Kretzschmar pitched 1 1/3 innings allowing one earned run on one hit and one walk.  Christensen pitched two innings allowing 11 runs, six earned, on five hits with five walks and two strikeouts.

Hamlin Defeats Tri-Valley 16U in Five Innings

Hamlin scored in every inning and defeated Tri-Valley 16U in five innings by a score of 13-3 on Thursday, June 24th.

Hamlin scored two runs in the bottom of the first, four in the bottom of the second, four in the bottom of the third, and three in the bottom of the fourth for their 13 runs.

Tri-Valley got a run in the top of the second when Everett Althoff scored on a wild pitch.  Cole Focken had an RBI single in the top of the third inning, and Kaden Egger scored on a passed ball in the top of the fourth inning for the three Tri-Valley runs.

Focken had two of the four Tri-Valley hits with an RBI.  Althoff had the other two hits.  Egger pitched two innings allowing six runs, three earned, on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts.  Aidan Heitkamp also pitched two innings allowing seven runs, three earned, on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

Big Inning Late Helps Tri-Valley White 14U to Win over West Central Royal 14U

Tri-Valley White scored six times in the bottom of the fifth inning to help them to a 10-5 win over West Central Royal on Tuesday, June 22nd.

West Central scored the first four runs of the game.  Stone Loof had an RBI ground out and Gavin DeHaven had an RBI single in the top of the first inning.  Loof put a ball in play and reached on an error as Preston Hostetler and Landen Holewa scored to give West Central a 4-0 lead in the second inning.

Tri-Valley cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Dylan Christensen drew a bases-loaded walk, and Blaine Wieczorek hit a ground ball that resulted in an error scoring Grant Schlueter.  Tri-Valley then took the lead with six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Gage Egger had a three-run double.  Egger later scored on an error in the inning.  Denton Bicknase had an RBI ground out, and Wieczorek had a bases-loaded walk to give Tri-Valley an 8-4 lead.

West Central added another run in the top of the sixth inning when Holewa stole home, but Tri-Valley got two more runs in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Egger and then Egger scoring on another error.

DeHaven had two hits, including a double, and an RBI for West Central.  Anthony Lanham had two hits.  Holewa had a hit, while Loof had an RBI.  Quincy Stephens pitched 2 2/3 innings with five walks and four strikeouts.  Hostetler pitched 1 1/3 innings allowing eight runs, four earned, on four hits with six walks and a strikeout.  CJ DenBoer pitched 1 2/3 innings allowing two earned runs on two hits with four walks and three strikeouts.

Egger had two hits for Tri-Valley, including a double, and four RBIs.  Levi Kretzchmar had two hits.  Matthew Cypher and Schlueter both had a single.  Benjamin Myhre, Bicknase, Christensen, and Wieczorek all had an RBI.  Myhre pitched three innings allowing four runs, two earned, on four hits with six walks and two strikeouts.  Egger pitched four innings allowing a run, which was unearned, on one hit with one walk and four strikeouts.

Tri-Valley White 14U Wins Back-and-Forth Game over Garretson

Tri-Valley White 14U scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to win a back-and-forth game against Garretson on Friday, June 18th.

Garretson scored four times in the top of the first inning.  Tri-Valley answered with four of their own in the bottom of the inning for a 4-4 score.  Both teams scored a run in the second inning.  Tri-Valley took their first lead in the bottom of the third when Denton Bicknase scored on a wild pitch.

Garretson tied the game 6-6 in the top of the fourth inning, but Tri-Valley scored three more in the bottom of the inning.  Parker Hemme scored on a wild pitch, Grant Schlueter had an RBI sacrifice fly, and Gage Egger scored on a passed ball for a 9-6 lead.  Garretson tied the game, 9-9, in the top of the sixth with three runs.  Tri-Valley then had a five-run sixth inning to take the lead for good.  Egger scored again on a passed ball after a lead-off triple.  Schlueter had an RBI ground out, Bicknase had a two-run single, and Hemme had a bases-loaded walk for the fifth run.

Bicknase had three hits and three RBIs.  Egger had a triple and an RBI.  Dylan Christensen had a hit and an RBI.  Landon Schenkel had a double.  Schlueter had two RBIs, and Hemme and Levi Kretzschmar both had an RBI.

Schenkel pitched four innings allowing six runs, five earned, on eight hits with three walks and seven strikeouts.  Bicknase pitched an inning getting two strikeouts, and Egger pitched 1 2/3 innings allowing four runs, one earned, on three hits with one walk and three strikeouts.

Tri-Valley 16U Beats Parker in High-Scoring Game

Tri-Valley 16U had two six-run innings and overcame two six-run innings by Parker for a 17-13 win on Thursday, June 17th.

Parker scored the first six runs of the game in the top of the first inning without a hit, taking advantage of six walks and a hit batter.  Tri-Valley rallied for six runs in their half of the first inning.  Cole Focken had an RBI triple and later scored on a wild pitch, Noah Haynes had an RBI single, Mason Hendrixson had an RBI single, and Holden Rise had a two-run single.

Tri-Valley took the lead, 8-6, in the bottom of the second on a two-run single by Barrett Althoff.  Parker again had a six-run inning, this time in the top of the third.  They only had one hit in the inning and again took advantage of four walks and two errors.  Parker lead 12-8 heading into the bottom of the third, but Tri-Valley rallied again.  Tanner Van Asselt, Kaden Egger, and Focken all had an RBI single. B. Althoff brought home two runs on a single, and Haynes also had an RBI single to give Tri-Valley a 14-12 lead after three innings.  Tri-Valley scored three more times in the bottom of the fourth on a three-run triple by Egger.

Focken had four hits, including a double and a triple, with two RBIs.  B. Althoff had three hits and four RBIs.  Egger had three hits, one a triple, and four RBIs.  Haynes also had three hits and two RBIs.  Rise had two hits and two RBIs.  Van Asselt had two hits and an RBI.  Hendrixson had a hit and RBI.  Everett Althoff had two hits, including a double.

Lawson Loiseau allowed five earned runs on five walks.  E. Althoff pitched 2 2/3 innings allowing six runs, two earned, on no hits with four walks and three strikeouts.  Beau Keith pitched 4 1/3 innings allowing two earned runs on two hits with five walks and 11 strikeouts.

Colton Legion 4-3 Through First Part of Season

The Colton Legion team has played about 1/3 of their 2021 season.  Through seven games they have an overall record of 4-3.

Their season started on June 2nd in Salem.  Colton fell just short in the game as Salem won 5-4.  Colton then went on an three-game winning streak.  They won a double-header on June 4th at Alexandria by scores of 14-6 and 18-10.  The third win came on their first home game of the season on June 10th.  They defeated humboldt/Hartford by a score of 10-3.

After the three-game winning streak, Lake Norden handed Colton two losses.  The two teams played a double-header on June 12th.  Lake Norden won the first game 10-5 and then the second game 12-6.

Colton’s latest game was on the road at Canova on June 15th.  They earned another win by a score of 4-1.

HBC Red Wins Big over Tri-Valley White 14U

Tri-Valley White 14U scored the first run of the game in the top of the first, but it was all Hills-Beaver-Creek Red after that point.  HBC scored six in the bottom of the first, three in the second, and 10 more in the fourth to win the game 19-4 on Tuesday, June 15th.

Parker Hemme scored the first run for Tri-Valley in the top of the first.  Gage Egger had a steal of home in the top of the third inning.  Landon McGill had a bases-loaded walk for an RBI in the top of the fourth, and Dylan Christensen scored on a passed ball for the fourth run.

Tri-Valley was held to only two hits in the game.  Hemme and Egger both had a single. McGill had the lone RBI in the game.

Benjamin Myhre pitched an inning allowing six runs, four earned, on three hits with three walks.  Egger pitched two innings allowing 10 runs, nine earned, on seven hits with four walks and two strikeouts.  Christensen pitched 2/3 of an inning allowing three runs, all unearned, with four walks and two strikeouts.
