Koch and Langer Finalists for Mr Basketball

Hansen Anderson Basketball will name the South Dakota prep Miss and Mr. Basketball during its annual awards luncheon at the Ramkota Convention Center in Sioux Falls on Sunday, May 5th.

Thirteen senior girls and twelve men were selected as finalists by a vote of South Dakota high school basketball coaches at the conclusion of the 2012-13 season.

The thirteen girls selected as finalists include: Allison Koehn – Brandon Valley, Cera Ledbetter and Darby Hugunin – Sioux Falls Lincoln, Chynna Stevens – Clark/Willow Lake, Emma Hanson – Sioux Falls Washington, Erica Herrold – Parkston, Kerri Young – Mitchell, Kieran O’Malley – Centerville, Logan O’Farrell and Presley O’Farrell – Summit, Rachel Rogers – Warner, Samantha Knecht – Aberdeen Central and Taylor Trohkimoinen – Newell.

The twelve finalists for Mr. Basketball include: Adam Hofer – James Valley Christian, Brock Zeller – Elk Point-Jefferson, Bryce Koch and Cole Langer – Dell Rapids, Chase Marso – Brandon Valley, Jordan Baker – Sioux Falls Christian, Lane Severyn and Zach Hanson – Pierre T.F. Riggs, Skyler Flatten – Clark/Willow Lake, Tanner Heiser – Watertown, Tyler Howard – Sioux Falls Roosevelt and Wyatt Krogman – White River

The luncheon is open to the public with tickets priced at $25 in advance by contacting Kari Jurrens at kjurrens@ncppub.com or for $30 at the door the day of the event. Doors will open at noon for lunch with the awards presentation beginning at about 1 p.m.

In addition to selecting South Dakota’s Miss and Mr. Basketball, Hansen-Anderson also publishes the annual Prep Basketball Previews each November and is involved in promoting the summer Hansen-Anderson Basketball Camps.

Dell Rapids/Baltic Baseball Defeats Lennox

Cody Nielsen struck out 12 in five innings and gave up only one hit to lead Dell Rapids/Baltic (2-0) to a 5-3 win over Lennox Friday, April 5.  Tim Wilhelmsen led the offense with three hits and two RBI. He also got the save in relief by pitching a scoreless 7th inning.  Matt Kolbeck, Nielsen, Mitch Roemen and Matt Juba all contributed a hit.  Dell Rapids/Baltic outhit Lennox seven to four. Max Jacobson and Jordan Harrington each had two hits for Lennox (0-1).

Dell Rapids/Baltic will play at Garretson Thursday, April 11.

Lennox JV 3, Dell Rapids/Baltic 2 (3 innings)

Lennox JV took advantage of two walks, two errors and a timely single all in the first inning to defeat Dell Rapids/Baltic JV 3-2 in three innings.  Ryan Geraets doubled and singled for Dell Rapids/Baltic. Eric Klein also singled. DR/B had the bases full with no outs but was unable to push the tying run across in the last inning.

Riley Jurgensen pitched the first inning and struck out three. Joe Muston came on in relief and struck out five in two innings.

DRHS Track Teams Post Great Showing at Tri-Valley

The Dell Rapids Quarriers boys track team captured 1st place Thursday, April 4th, at the Tri Valley Invitational while the Quarriers girls team finished in 3rd place in team scoring. The boys tallied 162.5 points to beat Baltic (95 pts) and Sioux Falls Christian (89 pts). Other teams competing were Tri-Valley, West Central, McCook Central Montrose, Chester and Lake Preston. The girls’ team title was won by Sioux Falls Christian with 180 points followed bby West Central with 129 points. The Quarriers finished with 93 points.

Dell Rapids/Baltic Baseball Wins First Game of the Year

Dell Rapids/Baltic 16, Tri-Valley 1 (4 innings)

Dell Rapids/Baltic won its season opening high school baseball game 16-1 behind the pitching and hitting of senior Spencer Kerzman in four innings.  Kerzman pitched all four innings giving up only one single and one run while striking out eight.  He also led the offense with two singles, a double and four RBI.  Leadoff hitter Tanner Solberg added two singles and a double.  Cody Nielsen and Tim Wilhelmsen each hit a single and double and drove in three runs.

 

Dell Rapids/Baltic JV 3, Tri-Valley JV 0 (3 innings)

Ryan Geraets led the offense with two singles to give the junior varsity team a 3-0 win.  Brett Mogen pitched two innings, and Riley Jurgensen the final inning to combine for a 3-inning no-hitter.

 

The Dell Rapids/Baltic team is comprised of 23 players grades 8-12 from Dell Rapids Public, St. Mary and Baltic schools.

Dell Rapids/Baltic plays Lennox at home (Volunteer Field) at  5:30 PM Friday, April 5.

Koch and Langer Selected to Class A All-State Team

Bryce Koch and Cole Langer were selected to the Class A Boys Basketball All-State Team.  Koch was named to the first team along with Skyler Flatten of Clark-Willow Lake, Jordan Baker of Sioux Falls Christian, Lincoln Swenson of Deuel, and Brock Zeller of Elk Point-Jefferson.  Koch averaged 12.3 points per game, 9.4 rebounds and four blocks.  He finished his career with 272 blocks, which is tops in school history.

Langer was named to the second team.

DRSM Boys Golf Team Finishes 3rd

The Dell Rapids St Mary boys golf team finished 3rd at the Garretson Early-Bird Tournament on Tuesday, April 2nd.  The Cardinals finished with a team score of 145.  Garretson finished first with a team score of 119, and Baltic finished second with a team score of 136.  Individually for the Cardinals, Nathan Klein shot a 44, Ethan Schmidt shot a 49, Leon Maxwell finished with a 52, Alex Eulberg and Lane Reecy each shot a 54, Austin Kubly shot a 56, Carson Park finished with a 60, and Jacob Eining finished with a 63.

DRHS Girls Golf Play in First Event

The Dell Rapids High School Quarrier girls golf team participated in their first meet of the year in Garretson on Tuesday, April 2nd.  The temperature was a little cool at 45 degrees, but the sun was out and there was only a slight breeze.  The event was only nine holes.  The meet was a “practice meet” as no team or indivicual places were kept.  April Tomes shot a round of 55, Natash Reit shot a 61, and Aleza Kirschenmann finished with a 66.  Courtney Sorsen and Sarah Haak also competed in the meet.

Head coach Jeff Dvorak said that he was just happy to get his team out to play.  The team has not had one practice hole in before the Garretson meet because the golf course has yet to open.

New Amateur Baseball Commissioners

South Dakota Amateur Baseball Association president Dale Weber has appointed new SDABA commissioners.  Randy Sabers of Salem will represent District 4, and Scott Healy of Aberdeen will be an “A” commissioner.  Brock Greenfield of Clark was re-appointed to represent District 1.  Retiring commissioners are Gary Croon of Dell Rapids and Mike Held of Huron.

Dan Lennon Track Invite Results

The Dell Rapids Quarrier track team competed in the Dan Lennon Invite in Vermillion on Monday, March 25th.  For the boys team, Brett Nichols finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 42′-4.25″.  Cole Langer finished second in the shot put with a toss of 56′-10″.  For the girls, Cassidy Wright finished fifth in the shot put with a toss of 37′-5″, which was a personal best throw.  Maddie Vietor finished sixth in the triple jump and tenth in the long jump.  Corynn Hoff finished 14th in the open 400 m dash.

Dell Rapids Quarrier 8th Grade Team Wins Tournament

The Dell Rapids Quarriers 8th grade boys basketball team won the upper bracket of the Roger Haas Tournament in Yankton on Saturday, March 22nd.  The Quarriers won the championship game in double OT.
