Dell Rapids – M 15/16 Teeners Split During the Week

Dell Rapids M split games this past week to the top two teams in the I-29 League.

West Central 8, Dell Rapids M 1

West Central, the number one team in the league, scored late to pull away from Dell Rapids M 8-1 on Monday, July 14th.

Elijah Story pitched five strong innings for Dell Rapids. He gave up three runs on six hits and struck out two. Mason Peter completed the final two innings. He surrendered six hits and five runs.

Dell Rapids M managed only two hits. Brett Mogen had an RBI single and Eric Klein added a single.

Dell Rapids M 13, Madison Gold 7

Dell Rapids knocked off the second place team in the I-29 League 13-7 on Wednesday, July 16th.

Josh Roemen led off the game with a sharp single past first base and eventually scored on Nate McKee’s sacrifice fly. Dell Rapids never looked back as Roemen added two triples for three hits total. McKee added a second RBI and two singles to the offense. Dell Rapids banged out 14 hits. Klein had a double and single, Story singled twice, and Mogen, Hunter Hansen, Nick Hoffman, Peter, and Ethan Brobjorg all contributed singles.

Mogen pitched the first four innings and entered the bottom of the fourth with a 10-0 lead. Three errors and four singles brought Madison back to a 10-4 deficit. A solid defensive play ended the threat.  Centerfielder Hunter Hansen fired a base hit back to shortstop Roemen who relayed it to Peter for the third out of the inning at home plate. Mogen finished his four innings with four hits, four runs and four strike outs.

Klein pitched the fifth and sixth innings and surrendered four runs on seven hits. Peter came on in relief with no outs and runners on second and third in the bottom of the seventh. He retired all three batters he faced to end the game. He was assisted by two running catches in the outfield by Adrian Juba. Dell Rapids pitchers did not walk a hitter in the game.

Dell Rapids (5-11) plays its final regular season game on Monday, July 21st at home versus Volga.

PBR Back in Win Column

PBRLogoDell Rapids PBR picked up two more wins in the Cornbelt League, one Tuesday, July 8th, and the other on Thursday, July 10th.

PBR defeated Harrisburg 13-1 on Tuesday, July 8th in Dell Rapids.  Harrisburg was the home team, but the game had to be moved to Dell Rapids due to Harrisburg’s field not being available.  Nate Alfson finished the game with two singles and two RBI for PBR.  Landon Klock, Scott LeBrun, and Bruce Mogen each had a single with two RBI.  Nate Henry and Weston Hansen each picked up an RBI single.  Colin Karst picked up the win on the mound pitching six innings.

On Thursday, July 10th, Dell Rapids hosted Lennox and came away with a 10-4 victory.  Blake Harms finished the game with a double and two singles for PBR.  Alfson added two doubles and four RBI.  Henry and Sheldon Davis each had a double and single.  LeBrun also finished the game with two hits.  PBR was able to take control of the game in the fifth inning on a bases-loaded double by Alfson.  Kenton Welbig earned the pitching win throwing six innings.  Dan Conrad pitched the final three innings for the three-inning save.

Dell Rapids Represented at 2014 SD All-Star Games

Two players and two coaches from Dell Rapids will be participating in the 2014 South Dakota All-Star games in Aberdeen.  All four will be part of the football game on Wednesday, July 16th, at 7:30 p.m.

Dell Rapids graduate Brock Reinhiller, and Dell Rapids St Mary graduate Leon Maxwell will be playing for the Blue (North) team this year.  Dell Rapids coach Steve Hansen, and Dell Rapids St Mary coach Ross Flemmer will be assistant coaches on the team as well.

This year is the 28th annual South Dakota All-Star games.  Graduated high school seniors from around the state participate in volleyball, girls basketball, boys basketball and football.  The Barnett Center on the Northern State University campus and the Clark Swisher Activities Complex are the headquarters for all the athletic activities during the week.

Renner Sends PBR to 4th Loss in a Row

PBRLogoDell Rapids PBR fell to the Renner Monarchs 8-1 on Sunday, July 6th, in Renner.  PBR jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning after three singles in the inning, capped off by an RBI single by Kevin Krull.  Renner answered with five runs in the first two innings on seven hits.  The Monarchs added three more runs on a three-run home run by Jason Nyhouse.

Dale Solberg took the loss, pitching five innings giving up eight runs on 11 hits, three walks, two hit batters, and six strikeouts.  Dallas Schneiderman earned the win throwing six innings giving up one run on five hits, one walk, one hit batter, and struck out eight.  Matt Wilbur pitched the final three innings allowing no runs on no hits and one walk.

PBR drops to 9-13 on the year and will play Harrisburg on Tuesday, July 8th.

13/14 Dells-E Crushes Canova

The 13/14 Dells-E team cruised past Canova 10-1 on Thursday, July 3rd, at Volunteer Field in Dell Rapids.  Dell Rapids threatened to score in the first two innings by getting the lead-off hitter to third base without an out, but could not score in either inning.  However, in the third inning after getting the lead-off hitter to third base without an out, Dell Rapids finally broke through for two runs.  Dell Rapids continued to put the pressure on Canova by scoring five times in the fourth inning to take a 7-0 lead after four innings.  Dell Rapids added another run in the fifth and two more in the sixth for the victory.

Adam Nagelhout lead the team offensively going 3-3 with a double, an RBI, and five stolen bases.  Logan Heim was 2-3 in the game with three RBI.  Tate Kolbeck and Alex Kringen also picked up hits for Dell Rapids.

Austin Ellingson pitched a complete game throwing seven innings allowing one run, which was unearned, on three hits, walking two, and striking out 11.

Dells-E improves to 8-4 while Canova fell to 11-2 in the I-29 League.

Madison Picks up Extra Inning Win over PBR

PBRLogoThe Madison Broncos scored five runs in the final two innings to force extra innings, and then won the game in the thirteenth over Dell Rapids PBR on Tuesday, July 1st.  PBR was leading 6-1 heading into the top of the eighth inning, but Madison scored four times, and then tied the game with two outs in the ninth inning on an RBI single by Brian Miller.  Neither team was able to score until the thirteenth inning.  Madison scored two times in the top of the inning on a bases-loaded walk and a fielder’s choice.

Mick Hoglund led Dell Rapids with two singles.  Dan Conrad, Nate Alfson, Matt Kolbeck, Blake Harms, and Colin Karst each had a single in the game.

Drew Eldeen pitched seven innings, striking out ten. Nate Alfson pitched into the thirteenth inning, picking up the loss. Matt Schoeber earned the win for Madison.

Dell Rapids PBR will play the Renner Monarchs in Renner on Sunday, July 6th at 7:30 p.m.  The game will be webcast on Big Sioux Media.

No-Hitter Highlights Weekend for 13/14 Teeners

The Dell Rapids 13/14 Teeners went 3-1 over the weekend and took home second place at the Pipestone Watertower Tournament.  Dell Rapids sent one 13/14 team to the tournament…the same team that will be used for the Regional Tournament at the end of the season.  The team is made up of members of both the 13/14 Dells-M and 13/14 Dells-E teams.

The Pipestone tournament was a round-robin pool play tournament.  They played two games on Saturday, June 28th, and two games on Sunday, June 29th.  West Central 14’s won the tournament finishing with a 3-0-1 record.

West Central 7, Dell Rapids 6  (Saturday)
Dell Rapids took a 6-3 lead into the final inning, but their defense gave out surrendering four unearned runs.  Carter Gullickson lead the way offensively going 2-3, and scoring two runs.  Keegan Miller added a double, a RBI and 2 runs.

Dell Rapids collected 14 hits to beat Pipestone 7 in a game cut short by time limit.  Keegan Miller was 3-3 with a double and three runs.  Logan Ruesink, Logan Heim, and Eddie Price each added two hits.

Dell Rapids trailed Pipestone 8 the entire game.  Down by two runds, Dells scored three times to win in walk-off fashion.  In the final inning, Cameron Bruhn added a hit, an RBI, and scored the winning run taking home on a wild pitch.  Adam Nagelhout scored twice on the day.

Austin Ellingson threw a compete game no-hitter for Dell Rapids vs Marshall.  The game was called after the 5th inning due to run rule.  On the offensive side, Austin Ellingston was 2-3 with a triple and a RBI.  Adam Nagelhout and Keegan Miller also added triples.  Jeffrey Schuch and Cameron Bruhn each added a double.

Flandreau Spoils “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” Night

PBR vs Flandreau 6-27-14 Shot 1The Flandreau Cardinals defeated Dell Rapids PBR on “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” Night Friday, June 27th, at Rickeman Field in Dell Rapids.  Flandreau scored right away in the first inning on an RBI triple by Jake Urich.  PBR tied the game in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI sacrifice fly by Nate Henry.  After both teams went scoreless in the second inning, Flandreau regained the lead in the top of the third when Beau Severtson scored from second after a single by Jordan Enriken and then a fielding error.  PBR was again able to tie the game in the bottom half of the third inning on an RBI single by Nate Alfson.  The Cardinals scored the final two runs of the game in the top of the fifth.  The first three batters of the inning reached base, and then Urich ripped a single down the left field line for the game-winning hit.

Bret Severtson pitched a complete game for Flandreau giving up two runs, one earned, on seven hits, walking two and striking out seven.  Colin Karst took the loss for PBR.  Karst pitched seven innings giving up four runs, three earned, on eight hits, while striking out six.PBR vs Flandreau 6-27-14 Shot 2

Henry and Alfson each had two hits and an RBI for PBR.

PBR Improves to 8-8

PBRLogoDell Rapids PBR moved to 8-8 overall and 7-3 in the Cornbelt League with a 7-5 win over the Canistota Rebels on Sunday, June 22nd.  PBR jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single by Landon Klock.  Dell Rapids added two more runs in the bottom of the third on an RBI hits by Dan Conrad and Nate Henry.  Canistota tied the game in the top of the fourth on a two-run triple by Dave Novak.  Novak scored on a fielding error during the same play to tie the game.  PBR came back with three more runs in the fifth inning, capped off by a two-run double by Matt Kolbeck.  Dell Rapids added one more run in the seventh when Henry scored on a wild pitch.  Canistota was able to push across two runs in the top of the eighth on five walks, but Nate Alfson got the final four outs for the save.

Kevin Krull picked up the win pitching six innings giving up three runs, one earned, on six hits and striking out six.  Drew Eldeen pitched 1.2 innings giving up two runs, both earned, on no hits and seven walks.  Alfson earned the save pitching the final four outs, striking out all four batters.

Klock and Kolbeck each had two RBI in the game.  Conrad, Henry, Klock, and Kolbeck all picked up two hits apiece.

Dells M Loses Tight Games in I-29 League Tournament

Dells M ended up 0-4 in the league tournament June 16-22.

Dells K (Kerzman) 4, Dells M (Mogen) 3

Ty Hoglund pitched six strong innings to lead Dells K past Dells M 4-3 on June 17. Hoglund struck out 12 and allowed five walks and three hits. He surrendered one unearned run.

Hoglund started the game with a double and scored on a Joel Brust single. Brust tallied three of the five Dells K hits in the game. Trevor Pulscher doubled for Dells K.

After surrendering the first inning run, Dells M pitcher Brett Mogen settled in to set down 12 of the next 13 hitters, one reaching base on an infield error. He completed four innings and struck out six while allowing two hits and one run.

Dells K extended its lead to 3-0 in the sixth inning when Brust singled, Reese Warne walked and both scored on consecutive infield errors. Dells M relief pitcher Eric Klein gave up only one earned run in three innings of work.

Dells M rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning. With one out Ethan Brobjorg reached first on a hit by pitch. Casey Hansen, Mogen and Nick Hoffman all walked to score Brobjorg. After a pitching change, Klein was hit by pitch to make the score 4-3. Dells K closer Trey Randel struck out the final two hitters with the bases loaded to earn a save.

For Dells M Hansen doubled and Hunter Hansen added a single.

Eight errors led to nine runs and a 9-0 loss at Chancellor June 18.

Adrian Juba laced two singles to lead the Dell Rapids offense. Brett Mogen, Hunter Hansen, Nick Hoffman, Nate McKee, Elijah Story all had one hit.

Garretson scored the winning run in the bottom of the final inning when a runner reached base on an infield error and scored on a double.

Micah Mader and Jacob Fitzgerald combined to hold Dell Rapids to no runs on three hits. Brett Mogen took the loss for Dells M going the distance. He allowed four hits and one run while striking out four in six innings.

Casey Hansen hit two singles and Nate McKee added a double.

Dells M (1-7 on season) led 3-1 and held on to a 3-3 tie until Colton/Crooks erupted for five runs in the final inning.
