The Baltic high school baseball team held off Canton in a back-and-forth game on Tuesday, April 8th. Baltic took the win 10-9.
Canton delivered the first blow with a three-run top of the first. Baltic responded with two in the bottom of the inning to make the score 3-2. Each team scored two runs in the second, and Canton continued to lead 5-4. Baltic would take the lead in the middle innings. They scored two in the third and one in the fourth to go in front 7-5. Canton tied the game, 7-7, with two runs in the top of the fifth. Baltic responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to go back in front 9-7. Each team would score a run in the sixth, and Baltic led 10-8 going into the seventh inning. After the first two batters were retired, Canton drew two walks and then added a single to cut the lead to 10-9. After another walk, Baltic was able to get the third out to hold for the victory.
Braxten Allen finished with four hits, two doubles and a triple, with an RBI. Elias Oakley had three hits and three RBIs. Jackson Goehring added two hits, one a double, and an RBI. AJ Grunewaldt also had two hits, one a double. Isaac Oakley had a single and two RBIs. Gavin Skotvold and Cale Roach each had a single.
Allen pitched three innings and allowed five runs, two earned, on two hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Grunewaldt threw 2 1/3 inning and allowed three earned runs on six walks with five strikeouts. Oakley ptiched 1 2/3 innings and allowed an earned run on a hit and three walks with two strikeouts.
