The Baltic Bulldogs softball team split a double header against the Elkton-Lake Benton Elks on Thursday, May 2nd. The Huskies won the first game, but the Bulldogs took the second game.
Elkton-Lake Benton 7, Baltic 2
After two scoreless innings, the Bulldogs scored two times in the top of the third. Caitlyn Pickett hit an RBI double and then scored on an error later in the inning to give Baltic a 2-0 lead. The Elks, however, scored three times in the bottom of the third to take a 3-2 lead. They added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth for the 7-2 lead.
Pickett had a double and an RBI. Alexis Kehn had a single. Charlee Blommer pitched 3 2/3 innings and allowed seven runs, but only three earned, on seven hits and two walks with seven strikeouts. Ryah Peters pitched 1/3 of an inning and did not allow a hit.
Baltic 8, Elkton-Lake Benton 7
The Bulldogs came from behind and scored a walk-off run in the second game to earn a victory. The Elks scored four runs in the top of the first inning. Baltic cut the lead in half with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Elkton-Lake Benton extended their lead, 5-2, with a run in the top of the second. The Bulldogs took the lead with a four-run bottom of the second. They made the score 7-5 with another run in the bottom of the third. The Elks tied the game with two runs in the top of the fourth. A Hoekman got a one-out single in the bottom of the fifth. She stole both second and third base, and then scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch.
Harper Kortemeyer finished with a single and home run with an RBI. Pickett had two hits, one a double, and an RBI. Katelyn Moser also had two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Baylee Breece and Hoekman both had a single and an RBI. Haedyn Painter and Madyson Determan each added a single, and Kehn had an RBI. Peters pitched five innings and allowed seven runs, only three earned, on seven hits and six walks with five strikeouts.
