Bulldog Softball Falls in First Two Game of Season

The Baltic Bulldog softball team had their firsts two games of the 2024 season on Thursday, April 5th and Friday, April 6th.  The Bulldogs hosted the Deuel Cardinals on Thursday and had a road game against the Tri-Valley Mustangs on Friday.

Deuel 18, Baltic 10

After a scoreless first inning, the two teams combined for 13 runs in the second.  The Cardinals scored eight times in the top of the second, and Baltic answered with five runs for an 8-5 score.  Deuel added four more runs in the third and five in the fourth to extend their lead to 17-5.  The Bulldogs scored four times in the bottom of the fourth.  Each team scored a run in the fifth inning.

Caitlyn Pickett had two hits, including a double, and four RBIs.  Anna Hoekman had two hits and an RBI.  Baylee Breece finished with a single and an RBI.  Ryah Peters pitched 2 1/3 innings allowing seven earned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts.  Charlee Blommer pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed eight earned runs on five hits and four walks and had four strikeouts.  Madyson Determan also pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed one earned run on two hits with two strikeouts.

Tri-Valley 18, Baltic 3

The Mustangs scored 13 straight runs over three innings to take a 13-0 lead going into the top of the fourth inning.  The Bulldogs got three runs across the plate in the top of the fourth inning.  Tri-Valley ended the game on the 15-run rule after scoring five more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Katelyn Moser had two hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Harper Kortemeyer had a double and an RBI.  Haedyn Painter added a single and an RBI.  Pickett also had a single.  Peters pitched two innings and allowed eight earned runs on nine hits and a walk with two strikeouts.  Blommer pitched 1 1/3 innings allowing 10 earned runs on eight hits and three walks with one strikeout.
