The Baltic 14U baseball team is headed to the 2023 South Dakota VFW State B Tournament after a 10-8 win over Salem in the Region 3B championship game on Wednesday, July 12th.
Salem delivered the first blow scoring a run in the top of the first inning and three more in the top of the second. Baltic got one run in the bottom of the third to make the score 4-1. Baltic then had their big inning in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring eight times to take a 9-4 lead. Salem scored two times in the top of the sixth to make the score 9-6. Baltic added another run in the bottom of the inning for a 10-6 lead. Salem rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh, but their rally ended there.
Baltic took advantage of nine walks and five Salem errors. The team only had three hits total in the game. Jackson Goehring had two oof the hits with an RBI. Elias Oakley had a hit and an RBI. Gavin Skotvold added three RBIs. Luke Petersen had two RBIs, and Cale Roach had one RBI.
Ben Berg pitched five innings and allowed four runs, one earned, on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Goehring pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed two unearned runs on two walks with three strikeouts. Aiden Peters pitched 1/3 of an inning and allowed two runs one earned, on four walks with one strikeout.
