The Baltic 14U baseball team took home second place from the 2026 South Dakota VFW 7th-9th Bravo Tournament in Sisseton held Friday, July 24th through Sunday, July 26th.
Baltic 5, Volga Navy 1
In the first pool-play game on Friday, Baltic broke a scoreless tie with five runs in the top of the fourth inning. Volga got one run in the bottom of the fourth. Baltic held Volga scoreless in the fifth to get the win.
Hayden Sundermann had two hits. Everett Bemboom also had a hit. Maddex Klein, Brody Hansen, and Laken Kortemeyer all had an RBI. Ayden Oschner pitched three innings and allowed an unearned run on a hit and walk with two strikeouts. Michael Grunewaldt tossed two innings and allowed two hits and a walk with four strikeouts.
Baltic 13, Sisseton 8
A big first inning helped Baltic win their second pool-play game on Friday. Sisseton scored two runs in the top of the first, but Baltic countered with seven runs to take a 7-2 lead. They added another run in the bottom of the second for an 8-2 score. Sisseton cut the lead to 8-6 with four runs in the top of the third. Baltic responded with four runs of their own to make the score 12-6. Sisseton scored two in the top of the fourth, while Baltic scored one more time in the bottom of the inning.
Bemboom had a hit with three RBIs. Sundermann and Oschner each had a single with an RBI. Grunewaldt also had a hit. Bodhi Giedd ended with two RBIs. Klein, Hansen, and Kortemeyer all had one RBI each.
Baltic 10, Volga 0
Baltic punched their ticket to the championship game with a 10-0 win in six innings over Volga on Saturday. They scored a run in the bottom of the first with five more in the second for a 6-0 lead. Baltic would get three runs in the bottom of the fifth and then ended the game on the 10-run rule with a single run in the bottom of the sixth.
Bemboom had a hit with two RBIs. Sunderman, Will Oakley, and Kortemeyer all had a hit. Hansen and Oschner each had an RBI. Oakley pitched 3 2/3 innings of no-hit baseball. Hansen pitched two innings and allowed a walk with two strikeouts.
Sisseton 13, Baltic 5
Sisseton used a big fifth inning to help team win the championship on Sunday. They scored a run in the top of the first. Baltic got three runs in the bottom of the first for a 3-1 lead. Sisseton tied the game, 3-3, with two runs in the top of the second. They added another run in the third for a 4-3 lead. Sisseton then had a big fifth inning scoring six times to take a 10-3 lead. They added three more in the top of the seventh. Baltic scored just two times in the bottom of the seventh.
Hansen had two hits. Sundermann finished with a single and two RBIs. Oakley and Kortemeyer had a single each. Bemboom added an RBI.
