Cardinals Fall to Deubrook in Volleyball Action

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal volleyball team hosted the Deubrook Area Dolphins on Monday, October 1st.  The Dolphins handed the Cardinals a straight set loss by scores of 25-21, 25-7, 25-15.

Veronica Beck had a team high seven kills  Maddie Schwebach and Ella Heinitz both finished with four kills.  Cassie Mullaney and Tyra Harrington both had three kills.  Paige Bunkers tallied two kills.  Mullaney had two blocks, while Beck and Schwebach both had one block.  Carly Maxwell led the back row defense with 15 digs.  Macie Brown had nine digs.  Addy Gilbert finished with five digs.

St Mary (7-8) will travel to Garretson on Tuesday, October 2nd for their second match in as many nights.

Quarrier Volleyball Impressive in Win over DV

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarriers volleyball team bounced back in a big way on Monday, October 1st.  Coming off back-to-back losses to McCook Cental/Montrose and Lennox last week, the Quarriers welcomed the Dakota Valley Panthers to Dell Rapids High School.  Dell Rapids defeated the Panthers by set scores of 25-23, 25-13, 24-26, 25-9.

Jayda Knuppe had a total of 16 kills on the night.  Maria Jackson finished with nine kills.  Kyra Graham had six kills, and Mackenzie Grisham and Dezi Rus both had five kills.  Hannah Fletcher notched 40 more set assists.  Brooke Klein led the team in digs with 21.  Grisham had 17 digs, and Sam Price added 12 digs.  Graham had two blocks.  Jackson and Fletcher both had a block.  Knuppe also tallied four ace serves, while Jackson had three.

Dell Rapids (13-6) will be back in action right away on Tuesday, October 2nd when they travel to Vermillion.

Dell Rapids Softball Drops Final Two Games of Season

The Dell Rapids Club Softball varsity team dropped its final two games of the season on Sunday, September 30th in Tea.  Dell Rapids fell to Tea 14-11 in their first game of the day and then lost to Pipestone 12-7 in the second game.  Slow starts in both games ended up being the difference as the come-from-behind rallies fell short in both games.

Hannah Heiberger finished the day with seven hits in seven at bats that included a double, four RBIs, and two runs scored.  Heiberger also caught the first game and did not allow a stolen base.  Zoe Mortrude had four singles, two walks, an RBI, and four runs scored during the day.  Brooke Klein added a single, a double, a triple, two walks, and an RBI.

Dell Rapids will now play in the state tournament on Saturday, October 6th and Sunday, October 7th.  Dell Rapids has earned a first round bye and will play the winner of Aberdeen vs Tea at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday in Sioux Falls.

Titans Big 2nd Half Key to Win over Dell Rapids

The Tea Area Titans racked up 36 points in the second half on their way to a 56-6 win over the Dell Rapids Quarries on Friday, September 28th in Dell Rapids.  Tea out gained Dell Rapids 389 yards to 180 yards and forced the Quarriers into four turnovers.

The Titans scored first after a Dell Rapids interception in the first quarter.  With 7:11 to go, Wyatt Van Tol scored on a 20-yard run.  After the extra point, Tea led 7-0.  The scored remained 7-0 after the first quarter.  Tea scored again early in the second quarter.  Carter Slykhuis scored on a 74-yard run with 11:02 to go.  The extra point gave the Titans a 14-0 lead.  Dell Rapids cut into that lead with 9:22 to play in the half.  Eddie Price connected with Logan Ellingson on a 78-yard touchdown pass to make the score 14-6.  After another Dell Rapids interception, the Titans scored right before halftime.  With 1:14 to play, Luke Elkins scored on a one-yard run.  Tea led 20-6 at halftime.

Tea’s offense really got rolling in the third quarter.  Slykhuis had two touchdown runs with four and a half minutes of each other, and the Titan defense recorded a safety in between the touchdowns.  With 4:27 to play in the third quarter, Dell Rapids quickly found themselves trailing 36-6.  Elkins scored his second touchdown of the game with 1:33 to play in the quarter on an 11-yard run to give the Titans a 42-6 lead.  Tea added two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter on runs by Kaden Johnson and Garrett Kolbeck.

Dell Rapids ended with 101 passing yards and 79 rushing yards in the game.  They were 4-10 on third down and had four penalties for a total of 55 yards.

Price finished the game 3-13 passing for 101 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions.  Ellingson had one catch for 78 yards and a touchdown.  Nick Boever had two catches for 23 yards.  Logan Stone finished the game with four carries for 42 yards.  Price had six rushes for 20 yards.  Boever carried the ball nine times for 12 yards.    Coby Maeschen and Price both had seven tackles in the game.  Tayte Gleason ended with six tackles.  Kenyon Shellum had five tackles, including a sack and forced fumble.  Alex Kringen also had five tackles.

Dell Rapids (3-3) will travel to Milbank on Friday, October 5th.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Cardinal Cheer Performs at SF Roosevelt Invite

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal competitive cheer team participated at the Sioux Falls Roosevelt Cheer and Dance Invite on Saturday, September 29th.  Fourteen teams participated in the event, nine in Class AA and five in Class A.

The Cardinals finished 10th overall with a team score of 184.00 points.  The finish was the third best of the Class A teams.  Sioux Falls Roosevelt placed first with 249.00 points.  Sioux Falls Washington placed second with 247.50 points, and Sioux Valley was third overall with 245.00 points.  Platte-Geddes was the second best Class A team with an eighth place finish overall at 190 points.

St Mary will compete again on Monday, October 15th at the Lake Preston Invite at Lake Preston High School.

Cardinals Fall Short Against Deubrook

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal football team couldn’t solve the Deubrook Area Dolphins on Friday, September 28th.  The Dolphins defeated St Mary 49-20 after leading 21-6 at halftime in White.

The Cardinals amassed 418 yards of total offense, 312 rushing yards and 106 passing yards, but gave up 491 yards of offense to Deubrook.  The Dolphins finished with 484 rushing yards and just seven passing yards.

Connor Libis was 9-13 passing for 106 yards, a touchdown and two-point conversion.  Libis also carried the ball 16 times for 103 yards and a touchdown.  Ethan Geraets hauled in three catches for 15 yards and a two-point conversion.  Weston Geraets had a catch for 29 yards, and Eli Longville had four receptions for 71 yards and a touchdown.  Payton Park finished the game with 12 carries for 88 yards and a touchdown.  W. Geraets had 19 carries for 93 yards, and Lonville had four carries for 26 yards.  Longville also led the St Mary defense with 4.5 tackles on the night.

St Mary (2-4) will travel to Elkton to play the Elkton-Lake Benton Elks on Friday, October 5th.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Quarriers Run at Lennox Oriole XC Invite

The Dell Rapids Quarrier cross country team took a trip down south to Lennox for the Lennox Oriole Cross Country Invite on Friday, September 28th.  Ten teams participated in the invite.

The Quarrier girls finished tenth with a team score of 152.  Sioux Falls Christian won the girls team title with 35 points.  Milbank placed second with 49 points, and Webster Area placed third with 69 points.  The Dell Rapids boys team finished ninth with 128 points.  Sioux Falls Christian also won the boys title with 35 points.  Beresford was second with 37 points, and Vermillion took third with 39 points.

Dell Rapids will travel to Vermillion for the Dak XII Conference meet on Thursday, October 4th.

St Mary Bounces Back with Win over O-R-R

DRSM LogoAfter a tough, hard-fought match that ended in a loss on Tuesday, the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals got themselves back into the win column with a 3-1 win over the Oldham-Ramona/Rutland Raiders on Thursday, September 27th.  The home team Cardinals picked up the win by set scores of 25-15, 20-25, 25-22, 25-23.

Maddie Schwebach tallied 10 kills to lead the offensive attack for St Mary.  Veronica Beck had nine kills.  Cassie Mullaney and Tyra Harrington both had seven kills.  Ella Heinitz ended with 32 set assists.  Beck and Heinitz both had four ace serves.  Carly Maxwell led the back row defense with 14 digs.  Heinitz had 10 digs.  Macie Brown finished with eight digs, and Courtney Brown had seven digs.  Mullaney had four blocks up front defensively, while Schwebach added three blocks.

The Cardinals (7-7) will host the Deubrook Area Dolphins on Monday, October 1st in their next match.

Girls 2nd, Boys 4th for Quarriers at Parker Meet

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier cross country teams had a good showing at the Parker Cross Country Meet held at the ParMar Golf Course on Wednesday, September 26th.

The Dell Rapids girls finished second with a total of 25 points.  Alcester-Hudson finished first as a team with 16 points.  Canistota was third with 26 points.

The Dell Rapids boys finished fourth with 28 points.  Warner placed first with 16 team points.  Dakota Valley and Mitchell Christian both finished with 25 points just ahead of Dell Rapids.

The Quarriers travel to Lennox on Friday, September 28th for the Lennox Invite.

Cardinals Boys Cross Country Runs Well at CE Invite

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals boys cross country team ran well at the Colman-Egan Invite on Wednesday, September 26th in Colman.  The boys team ran well enough to place second with a total of 27 points.  Beresford placed first with 24 team points.  Deubrook Area placed third with 43 points.

Jacob Vogel had a strong race finishing second with a time of 18:08.38.  Ryan Eining placed 10th with a time of 19:28.56.  Seth Roemen had an 18th place finish with a time of 20:12.15.  Thomas Eining was right behind in 19th with a time of 20:12.50.  Connor Libis finished 27th at 20:42.00.  Owen Vargas placed 40th with a time of 21:21.22.

Addy Gilbert, the lone varsity runner for St Mary in the girls race, placed 21st with a time of 23:53.22.

The Cardinals will be at the Dakota Valley Conference meet in White on Wednesday, October 3rd.
