Cubs Girls Come Up Short Against Akron-Westfield

The Alcester-Hudson Cub girls held a lead early in the fourth quarter, but the Akron-Westfield Westerners went on a run to take a 44-37 win on Thursday, January 16th.

The Westerners took a lead in the first quarter and led 10-5 by quarter’s end.  Akron-Westfield maintained their lead throughout the second quarter and held a 20-14 advantage at halftime.  The Cubs were able to cut into the lead in the third quarter and trimmed the lead to 29-27 going into the fourth quarter.  Alcester-Hudson took the lead 33-31 with 6:20 to go in the game.  The Westerners went on a 6-0 run and regained the lead 37-33 with 3:10 to play.  Akron-Westfield made their free throws down the stretch to hold for the win.

Emily Winquist finished with 14 points and six rebounds.  Emma Solberg had five points, four rebounds, and three assists.  Devin Hongslo ended with five points and four rebounds.  Jenna Manning also had five points.  Emma Moller had four points and 10 rebounds.
