Last Second Shot Ends Season for Cubs Boys

A last-second, buzzer-beating three pointer ended the season for the Alcester-Hudson Cubs on Tuesday, February 27th.  The Cubs lost to the Gayville-Volin Raiders 73-71 in the opening round of the Region 4B Tournament.

The Raiders had a double-digit lead in the first quarter and led 24-15 by quarter’s end.  The Cubs were able to cut the deficit to four points, 39-35 by halftime.  Alcester-Hudson kept the momentum going in the third quarter and outscored the Raiders 24-14 to take a 59-53 lead into the fourth quarter.  Gayville-Volin was able to tie the game 70-70 with just :07 to play.  William Hallaway was fouled with just :03 remaining.  He made one of two free throws to give the Cubs a 71-70 lead.  The Raiders were able to pass the ball up the court and get the game-winning three-point shot off just in time to win 73-71.

Dominic Van Egdom finished with 16 points, 19 rebounds, and five assists.  Ethan Bovill had 15 points and four rebounds.  Evan Haak also had 15 points.  Jose Topete-Lopez ended with eight points and three rebounds.  Mateo Kleinhans also had eight points with five assists.  Jacob Cole had six points.
