Big Second Half Gives Cub Girls First Win of Season

The Alcester-Hudson Cubs girls basketball team had their first home game of the season on Friday, December 8th.  The Cubs hosted the Menno Wolves and turned a four-point halftime lead into a 60-32 victory.

Alcester-Hudson held a four-point lead at the end of the first quarter, 11-7.  Both teams scored 13 points in the second quarter, and the Cubs held a 24-20 lead at halftime.  The offense got rolling in the second half for the Cubs.  They outscored the Wolves 17-10 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 41-30.  The defense shut Menno down in the fourth quarter, holding them to only two points, while the offense scored 19 more points in the win.

The Cubs shot 36% (22-61) from the field, 32% (6-19) from three-point area, and 71% (10-14) from the free-throw line.  Menno was 36% (12-33) shooting from the field, 31% (5-16) on three-point attempts, and just 3-10 from the free-throw line.  The Cubs defense forced 34 Menno turnovers in the game, 22 of those on steals.

Emily Winquist had 17 points and four steals.  Alexis Gray added 12 points, six assists, four steals, and three rebounds.  Elly Doering had 10 points, 10 rebounds, three steals, and two assists.  Jenna Manning had four points, four rebounds, and seven steals.
