Cubs Take Home Match over Bearcats

The Alcester-Hudson Cubs volleyball team hosted the Freeman Academy/Marion Bearcats on Tuesday, October 17th.  The Cubs won in straight sets by scores of 25-15, 25-17, and 25-22.

After an early 3-3 tie to start the first set, the Cubs made the first run of five straight points for an 8-3 lead.  They extended the lead to 12-5, but the Bearcats pulled within three at 13-10.  Alcester-Hudson then went on a 7-1 run for a 20-11 lead before winning 25-15.

The second set also started with an early tie, 2-2.  The Cubs went on a 6-1 run for an 8-3 lead.  They maintained that lead and slowly grew it to 18-7.  Freeman Academy/Marion went on a 10-4 run to cut the lead to 25-17, but the Cubs scored the final three points for a 25-17 win.

The Cubs took an early 6-1 lead to start the third set.  They still led by five, 10-5, but that’s when the Bearcats made one of their runs.  Freeman Academy/Marion pulled within two points, 11-9.  The Cubs responded with a 12-4 run to go ahead by 10 points, 23-13.  The Bearcats made one more run, getting within two points again, 23-21, but the Cubs shut the rally down and finished the set with a 25-22 win.

Alexis Gray finished with nine kills, 11 digs, three set assists, and two ace serves.  Elly Doering added five kills, 15 digs, three blocks, three set assists, and two ace serves.  Carly Patrick had four kills, 13 digs, and two aces.  Hannah Ahart had 19 set assists, six kills, six digs, and two ace serves.  Tiana Kruid added four kills, and Kate Teunissen had two ace serves.
